How can it even be legal for the person in charge of running an election be a candidate in the election? What sane person would consider that to be remotely legal and honest?

Has nobody in the AP been following Kobach’s shenanigans in KS? The SoS is responsible for publishing instructions to election judges, as well as maintaining the state’s voting website where voters find information about polling locations and voting requirements.
Only a fool would attempt to tamper with the vote by literally handling the individual ballots, and only an idiot would think that’s the only way to do it.
I am beginning to think that Kemp rigged the voting machines. Someone on another thread remarked that the voting machines are made by Diebold, which is a big red flag. Methinks, he resigned with a flourish today is simply kabuki theaters because the vote tally was rigged to his satisfaction.
I own a VB complex, and this reminds me of teams that fight tooth and nail to get a forfeit rather than actually playing the game to decide who wins. There is nothing in my genetic makeup that would ever do that.
