I don’t know where these people would have gotten the idea that this “holiday”, of minor importance in Mexico outside the state of Puebla, has become popular in this country as a result of efforts by Tequila and Mexican beer importers.

As someone who once was a schoolgirl I shudder at the thought of what these young innocents must be enduring. But let’s not waste our time on this part of Africa, let’s continue to look at North Africa.

Wait. There are people celebrating an ethnic holiday by drinking and mentioning the drinking is some how insensitive?

Did anyone tell the Irish? Last time I looked, St Patrick’s day was celebrated by drinking. Has been for decades.

Sigh…
Another in the unending line of “Privileged White Elite Talking Heads” who think they are still in their Frat/Sorority where they can be bigoted fools at will.

Not seeing the issue any more than green beer is an issue on St. Pats day or beer and fireworks on the 4th. Good or bad, it’s become a drinking holiday, promoted heavily by the liquor industry.

If you are drinking because it is the Fifth of May and don’t know the significance of the holiday, Cinco de Drinko is apt. This goes for any of the amateur drinking events: St. Party’s Day, Santarchy, etc.

Gringos acting badly.

“Drinking holidays” are for amateurs.

Indeed. Professional drinkers need no such petty excuses.

…and corned beef and cabbage, which the Irish know nothing about.

the public shaming over a holiday largely associated with drinking seems a bit much.
