Discussion: A Warning Sign For Republicans On Abortion

Discussion for article #228012

How long do the Repos think they can keep floating their ā€œBig Lieā€ to America? Hopefully long enough for them all to be swept from office in a major wake-up call landslide election.

It’s a pleasure to read a well-written, well-thought-out article here for a change. Haven’t seen much of that since the days when Josh used to write the whole thing himself.

The Rs can keep floating their ā€œBig Lieā€ as long as Fox news helps them along the rough spots. By using FNIT (Faux News Improvisational Theater) Doosey and the gang can promote their thought-free area and while allowing their and their viewers’ egos/libidos to thrive.

The number one reason women chose to have an abortion in this country is economic. The marriage rate in this country is also at a historic low for the same reason. If conservatives want to reduce the number abortions they need to start supporting working families, but they won’t,because its not really about abortion for them. It’s about controlling peoples lives.

They can keep floating the big lie as long as the Religious Right, Mormon and Catholic Churches continue pushing the cult of the fetus.

I completely agree, i really enjoy Mr. Kilgore’s articles/analyses. I always learn something from him. Much better than learning about which pundit said some crazy thing on Fox today.

I love that Kilgore uses the term ā€œanti-choiceā€.

You think the right wing would be more willing to compromise considering they are all retroactive abortion poster boys themselves.

First of all, they really don’t want to end abortion. What would they run on as a wedge issue? It behooves them to simply whittle away at it because it stirs up their base. Making abortion illegal is not their real goal, no matter what they say.

Secondly, in the scenario described they wouldn’t have to ā€œgive inā€ and offer something else. They could pass a completely restrictive law, knowing that the President would veto it. They would never over-ride because – see first paragraph.

If there is a Republican Senate, House, Presidency, and Supreme Court (2 out of 4 already are there), they would be up the creek abortion-wise. Their base would definitely expect a reversal of Rowe vs Wade.

Not to worry, though, because if the whole government was Republican we would be in perpetual war, and our economy would be so fucked it wouldn’t matter what laws they passed.

Republicans don’t take warnings seriously.
One has only to look at their modern history to see this.

They are inexorably chained to their rigid and failed ideology, and facts aren’t about to change that.

If you think such outstanding ā€œĀ¢hri$tian$ā€ as DesJarlais, Vitter and Sanford will compromise on their fetus fetish, I’ve got a bridge in Brooklyn to sell to you!

Republicans are just as chained to their rigid and failed ideology as Soviet Communists were.

I likely know many women who have had abortions. But in my experience, abortions are matters that women discuss with other women, and not with many men. I can understand why.

The only women that I KNOW have had elective abortions did so because of pressure by very conservative fathers and boyfriends who did not want the stigma of an out-of-marriage pregnancy.

In my experience, conservatives hate embarrassment much more than they hate abortion.

The woman named Roe in the lawsuit (Jane Roe) was Norma McCorvey who later became staunchly anti-abortion. She gave birth to the unwanted baby because the trial took three years to be decided. There is a wealth of information about her on the Web
