Discussion: A Toddler Snuck Through The White House Fence Last Night

Ok, legitimate question here, Sandman’s and StevenNC’s slapdowns not withstanding.

Last and only time I’ve been in DC was during the Bush the Elder’s administration. So things obviously may have changed since then, but still. I don’t remember seeing any security decked out like that guy, at the Capitol or the White House or anywhere. And it was something I would have noticed, having recently returned from a trip to Central America where every bank and hotel and government office had bored young guys with military-style guns hanging around the entrance, a sight which many in our group found more than a little disconcerting. Not that there weren’t plenty of security folks, uniformed and not, making themselves obvious at the White House, but the war at the time was being fought in Kuwait and Iraq, not the White House lawn. So maybe these Seal Team Six looking guys were there all the time hiding in the bushes ready to burst out blazing if a toddler were to penetrate the perimeter.

In short, is this what the response to the toddler incident really looked like? Is this what DC looks like these days?

Same story as covered on FOX and Friends:
“Security breach at the White House clearly demonstrates that America’s youth are rebelling against the tyranny of the Obama Administration.”

Ted only ACTS like he’s an 8yr old in need of a nap.

There are many times when I think the over the top pictures and headlines detract from TPM rather than add, however in this case I don’t agree.

If the quote about waiting until he learned to talk…and getting a timeout hadn’t been included then it wouldn’t have worked. But we have this big armed guard and the clever response about sending him on his way with his parents.

It’s a good juxtaposition.

Toddlers are slippery fellows if Mom and Dad’s attention is diverted for 30 seconds. They come in all sizes and are very very determined if they are bored and curious.

Check his calves then waterboard him!!! (snark folks, just snark)

Heh! You don’t know my 5 yr old grandson…

The guy in the image barely has room for his shield considering the amount of weaponry he’s carrying. With reference to a story from yesterday on TPM, I hope he doesn’t try to reload near that toddler.

THis IS exACTLY whY we HAVe stand YOur grouND laws!!!1!11!!!oen!!!1!!!

the secret service confirms that the toddler didnt have a choke hold placed on him yet he was draw down on …quoted from an anomymous sorce…we had that lil bastard in our sights but got orders NOT to shoot… we never get to have any fun like regular cops do

Gee, thanks for the measured response.

I dunno… the over-the-top response smells like “psyop” to this journo – maybe an exercise to gauge media gullibility? Wouldn’t a parent pull the child back? Something does seem wrong with this picture; but the media dare not question.

Ok, maybe I’m misunderstanding you - or you’re misunderstanding me? I’m about as far from a wingnut as you can get and I really am not concern trolling. It’s a genuine question, and I don’t mean it to be a rhetorical one. My picture of what security at the White House fence looks like is based on what I saw one weekend more than two decades ago, and I suppose from what shows up incidentally on the occasional video clip.

If this guy is the one who rounded up that maverick toddler, I imagine the poor kid, not to mention the parents*, were traumatized.
