Discussion: A Tiny Alaskan Island Halfway To Russia Could Decide Control Of The Senate

Discussion for article #228958

For want of a nail …

Whether it’s St Paul Island or St Paul, Minnesota, every vote counts. At least it should unless the Republicans can suppress it. Don’t let the Republicans take your vote away. They will if they can and if you don’t vote this time, you may not get a chance to next time.

We’re told that the Native American vote is also crucial in MT, SD, AZ also. Maybe some irony there that they may save what’s left of our democracy.

That “get-out-of-the-vote effort” mentioned in the article sounds like a GOP initiative to me.

I think the reporter meant to write “get-out-the-vote effort” …

An island so small it only takes 30 minutes to drive across it – I know another tiny island that size, with a population of roughly a million people.

I think the operative question here: Can Sarah Palin see this island from her house?

A: Only if her eyes aren’t swollen shut after her latest bar brawl.

I believe she will always retroactively be miles away from family brawls.

So her eyes are always clear like the eagle eyed mighty talons of the majestic grizzly bear as it flies downstream toward freedom and jesus and apple pies.

If ya want a politician that will fight for you…

He who laughs last has found a new meaning.

Yeah, but that island takes 30 minutes to drive across if you’re out at 5:00 a.m. on a Sunday!

This is outstanding news, both about Begich’s particular operation in Alaska, and the Bannock Street project in general.

It is how elections are won, especially in off-years.

I like good news.

Good for Begich for not taking anything for granted. We could use more candidates and campaign staffs that run scared.

I live in one of the suburban counties Tom Wolf MUST win in order to beat Corbett in Pennsylvania. I have not seen a single Wolf sign in two thirds of the county. No one has come to my door to make sure I will vote. It’s like his organization just assumes that every Democrat here will vote. News flash— Republicans vote here, Democrats don’t, in non presidential elections. For the first time I think Corbett will stay governor, because no one knows what Wolf is doing.

Are Democratic canvassers working there as well?

“Deadliest Catch” fans are very familiar with St. Paul Island

It would mean a lot if Begich or some surrogate could make a round of all the Aleut islands before the election, maybe all the little towns off the road grid too.
