That’s what happens when the plan is to hold children hostage in return for immigration reform and punishing people for daring to follow the law and present themselves for a chance at asylum. There never was a plan to reunite these families. Brown people attempting to achieve the dream of America are not welcomed.

The asymmetrical treatment by the courts really galls me.
Sign a document you can’t read in a language you can’t speak with no translator while the full coercive power of the state literally stands over you and says this is the only way to see your kids again? Too bad , so sad , no asylum claim for you.
Represent an agency with thousands of employees and a multi million dollar budget, and fail to follow a court order? Get mulligan after mulligan after mulligan after stern talking too after mulligan.
The Trump administration argued that more than a third of the migrant children in its custody are ineligible for reunification, because the parent either has a criminal record, is undergoing “further evaluation,” or has waived their right to be reunified.
How many of those people are hoping their child will be allowed to stay in America, even if they themselves aren’t? Quite a few, I bet.
So I guess this judge is not going to be throwing Nielsen etc in jail for contempt then.
Which would be the only way to get these creatures to do what their gods would demand of them to do.
Instead they lie and stall and defy court orders with impunity. I thought they were supposed to have this all wrapped up by now. That isn’t even 20 percent. In school that rate would earn you an “F,” at a normal job that would get you shown to the door.

I interpreted the “barrels toward deadline” as something like “chugs heedlessly toward cliff face”.
So when do we get the answer of what was Trump’s plan for the kids after they deport the parents?
And how many babies have been on formula for how many months?
I still want to know where they are getting these info in criminal records?
When do we move to how the parents and kids were treated while in cages?
And can we demand that the cost of this fiasco be deducted from Trump’s military parade?

My impression is that a lot of the “criminal records” involve either the crime of repeated border crossing or crimes committed – resisting arrest, fleeing apprehension, identity theft if they tried to buy papers and so forth – while trying to get in. Albeit some will also no doubt be cherry-picked from any information given as part of asylum requests (see by way of analogy the recent case where being enslaved at gunpoint constituted material support of a terrorist group).
