Discussion: A Future President Could Undo The Birth Control Rule

Discussion for article #226769

This does assume that there will be a future Republican President. Given the almost comedic ability of the GOP to alienate, gays, minorities, women and anyone above a room-temperature IQ, I don’t see that happening.

Sure there will be future Republican Presidents. But definitely not some nut like Cruz, as the article implies. If the Republicans try to run nuts, they will lose. Any Republicans I know can’t stand Cruz, Palin, etc. That’s a select group of FOX watchers, which wins you TV ratings, but not elections.

If Mitt Romney were President, he would not do what this article states. The majority of people would not want it done, and he would not do it.

I wrote about this concern 3 days ago when the original article came out here on the rules change by HHS and the Obama administration. Yes, it is possible for these thugs to change the rules if they get a Rethuglican President elected into office. Bush changed countless rules during his time in office following Clinton. If you’ll recall, the controversy over not approving Plan B originally began under GWB, and the efficacy to continue with stem cell research basically came to a complete halt under his presidency. They argued that Plan B was an abortifacient drug, which it is not. SCOTUS ignored pertinent scientific facts during the Hobby Lobby case and ridiculously decided that what a company “believed” was more important than scientific reality.

The takeaway from this article today…Don’t let a Republican ever get elected President…because shit always rolls downhill.

But where are they going to find a candidate who isn’t nuts that the party will nominate to run for President?

Are any of these not nuts?

  • Michele Bachmann
  • Rick Santorum
  • Newt Gingrich
  • Sarah Palin
  • Rick Perry
  • Rand Paul
  • Ted Cruz
  • Chris Christie

The only one of those who might have been able to pass himself off as not nuts is Christie, but that was before he met Captain Ahab and the Pequod in the form of the George Washington Bridge. The Republicans would have to run Romney again and the likelihood of that happening is about the same as their giving Jon Huntsman a serious look for the 2012 nomination. The Republicans simply don’t have a candidate who can carry the moderate vote that they’d be willing to nominate to run.

Rafael Cruz will NEVER be President!

Only at the love letter to Ted Cruz known as TPM does “future republican president” merit a picture of Ted Cruz.

I don’t believe anyone can make any assertion of what Romney would do, simply based on the overwhelming numbers of complete flip flops he has done in his life.

The one thing you can say though is he showed an incredible wiliness to be bent over by the right wing influences in his party.Would that suddenly have disappeared after he got elected? With their then dream boy Ryan waiting in the VP slot, I seriously doubt it.

Quite frankly I would consider it plausiable that if Romney didn’t dance to their tune precisely, their would still be impeachment talk on the airwaves.

At this point, I believe their nomination process is going to be largely driven by who isn’t in jail.

My goodness. WHO KNEW or could have guessed that a Presidential Executive Order could be reversed or augmented by another Presidential Executive Order?

THIS IS MADNESS!!!

And they all lost big time. That proves my point.

“Would that suddenly have disappeared after he got elected?”
Yes. And I use ANY politician as an example.

I wasn’t questioning your point. I was just wondering where the Republicans are going to find a presidential candidate that fits your description (i.e., not nuts).

Ohhhhhhhh, ok. Makes sense, yes. But you are forgetting Jeb Bush and Romney. They are both reasonable Republicans. I don’t like their policies, but they are not nuts. If the Republicans come to their senses and run one of them they do have a shot to win. And neither of them would do what this article is stating.

Trick being, of course, that they need to get through the knuckle-dragger primaries first.

Surely if the Republicans make it harder for women to get birth control, this will make them wildly popular. Hahahaha

Romney never sealed the deal with the right wing or the TP. They spent the entire general election yanking on his chain to keep him in the far right corner of the yard, until the very end. They forced Ryan on him precisely to ensure that they would have something over him if he did get elected.

A Romney administration would not have had the support that W. had, for example. Any move towards the center would have been heavily attacked…and yes, given the likes of Cruz and the nihilists in the House, I could see them tossing around the impeachment phrase at him if he didn’t toe their line.

Republicans are much tougher about keeping their candidates in line with the base than Dems are.
