Discussion for article #232804
Is there really any way for Sinema to win a statewide race in Arizona, even with a presidential wave to help?
Maybe if the Hispanic vote is heavy enough. It depends entirely on the demographic shift. Arizona is projected to be a majority minority state this year. GOTV is a big deal.
Someone here thought McWar was retiring not long ago. Like I said then and I’ll say it now, I suspect Daddy Warbucks wants to die in office. It will be the only thing left for him to squeeze out of that totally false narrative of the Mavericky McCain in Congress. He’s ego-bound to stay-put and await for his momentous day…He really has very little left to offer otherwise. Besides, he probably figures, why let a good retrospective go to waste?
If only he could be ousted earlier…How much worse can Arizona do? They’re already mired in dumbfuck politicians for the most part. I used to think Arizona was a progressive state growing up. Haven’t thought that for a lonnnng time now.
McCain’s a moderate? Since when?
He probably figures he’s a dead man walking if he retires. His grandfather died three days after retiring from the Navy and his father did the same after a few weeks or months. I suspect that he just couldn’t live without his weekly appearances on Sunday shows.
McCain will be a top target of conservatives seeking to knock off one of the more moderate-aligned Republicans in the Senate. And this says it all about where we are as a country.
McCain “moderate”?
John “Get Off My Lawn” “McGrumpy” McCain is 30 years past his “Best if Used By” date.
She’s pretty much a putz at that.
And as horrible and noisy and useless and as much trouble as he is, I’d STILL prefer him to the Koch-ass sniffing bed wetters the various “conservative” orgs in AZ will send in after him.
Oh but I do really, really, really want Caribou Barbie to move to her McMansion in Mesa full time and run against old John of Many Houses. She’s just itching to get more media time and this would be the perfect venue for her return to the stage. Not to mention such justified karmic payback for McCain putting her on the national stage to begin with.
From what I can tell She’s popular here in S. Arizona but then we are an anomaly compared to the rest of the state.
From my view point it’s well past time for Gramps to retire. But he is now the Chair of the Armed Services Committee which is something he has coveted for a very very long time. He will try to keep his seat for that reason alone if for no other. I do not see McCain giving his seat up willingly as long as he has this chairmanship. When he does lose it he will certainly be very bitter about it. His skin is so thin it’s transparent. He carries a lot of anger.
The RWNJs keep on dragging the goal posts further to the right.
Have you no feeling for us who inhabit the desert southwest? McCain and Flake as (cough) Senators is bad enough. Now you wish to inflict us with Caribou Barbie? You’re gonna force me to move to New Mexico.
SR, I’ve lived in Arizona for nearly 50 years. Before that I visited my grampa in Scottsdale when it was separated from Phoenix by miles of orange groves and Scottsdale Rd was 2 lanes of dirt. Back then Carl Hayden was still the Senior Senator and had been since statehood was declared (practically) and this new guy named Goldwater was making a name for himself in Photography and Dry Goods out of Prescott and he was thinking of politics. We had several democrats in office back then and they had control of one or the other state house and off and on the governorship as well. But, since 1968 the state House and Senate have been in republican hands and more often than not the governor has been a republican. I cannot recall a time we were progressive…ever. More moderate surely But not progressive. In my opinion the republicans have been a blight on my state. They try mightily to blame the democrats for our problems but in truth there’s no way they can. This rotting albatross is a republican bird.
Bristol Palin?
The Arizona Republic, which first reported Sinema's new Getting Stuff Done PAC, suggested that Sinema could decide to run against McCain in 2016 or Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) in 2018.
Since the retirement of Michele Bachmann, Jeff is the main Flake remaining in Congress.

I doubt she’ll be able to unseat McNasty; AZ has gone so far to the Right, I really beleive that it’s unrecoverable. As for Flake, whenever I’ve heard him in the news, he sounds mildly Repug not frothing at the mouth. I admit I know very little of Sinema but couldn’t she have chosen a better name for her “PAC”?
We can only hope he will be gone. If he loses how long before Cindy(?) dumps him?
Don’t think she’ld win even with the devotion of the blue hair population of the Phoenix area but it would be so fun to see the look on the old mans face when he reaped what he had sown.
