In unrelated news, the US no longer needs to conserve petroleum! Let’s destroy Russia by expending all of our domestic supply in a series of ill-planned summer roadtrips that celebrate how much safer our roads just became!
There has to be a day when we stop pulling this shit out of the ground and burning it. Today it’s a million brown people in a shithole country, so obviously nobody cares and this is actually probably a good thing that’ll teach 'em they should have been born here. But one of these days it will be a lily-white population of extremely wealthy “real Americans” whose exorbitantly valuable beachfront property is being washed in seawater and sewage.
ETA: and since it’s those same “real Americans” who are animating the Right’s war on science and sustainability, I really hope this shit hits them sooner rather than later.
This is just a foretaste of what’s coming. Rain-induced flooding is one thing, but flooding caused by sea level rise is another, and that promises to be the real humanitarian disaster. Floodwaters eventually recede. The ocean, not so much.
I used to think that the worst effects of climate change wouldn’t hit until after I’d shuffled off this mortal coil, but that’s no longer quite as certain.
Time for Dotard to lob more paper towels…
We have close family members and friends who have been affected or still being affected by these floods and I get constant updates on the situation. It seems that rains have finally let up and people are slowly going back to their homes. The real struggle is going to be rebuilding their lives. Luckily all our friends and family are fine. Our hearts go out to those who have lost family members and/or facing utter devastation.
Terrible thing. Good that your friends and family are all okay.
Keeping you in our hearts.
Thanks for your kind wishes. Fortunately for us, our family and friends have the financial resources and manpower to rebuild their lives. Our concern is for the millions of poor people who may not have a normal life to go back to.
From the image, I’m confused how anyone was able to escape the flooding. It goes on for miles.
It must have been an amazing effort to remove so many from danger.
Wishing them well!
