I just hope that all eight Dems base their campaigns on the unadulterated evil of the GOP, and the GOP candidate, rather than tearing each other apart, leaving a wounded Dem in the election.
I had enough of that in the 2016 primary.
Corporatist! Neoliberal! DLC Dem! You just want to stop the Revolution!
Busted, but would be a nice change, though…
Dino has always been a fiscal conservative with a social conscience.
Sounds like Dino may be one of those Bush the Lesser compassionate conservatives. Those were the days, my friend.
That dynamic seems unlikely, even if the primary is hard-fought. Democrats are desperate to take down the GOP by hook or by crook.
Rossi has stated his opposition to the Trump administration’s imposition of tariffs on steel and aluminum imports. On DACA, he told The Seattle Times in March that it wouldn’t be “logical” to deport beneficiaries.
Voting against Rossi will do more to advance these policies because so long as Republicans control the House Rossi is just pissing into the wind. How many people in this district are employed by Boeing? Or Amazon?
This is a very tech heavy district. Dems need to tie Trump’s Amazon attacks around Rossi’s neck like an albatross. Lots of immigrants in this district too.
Also, Reichert is kind of a special case. He’s a local hero from the task force that caught the Green River Killer. Dino has no such standing. He’s just a sleazy real estate developer that Republicans seem convinced will win an election one of these days.
The Dino is prone to gaffes and the iffy developer label fits him to a tee. His sore looser behavior made him look weak and desperate after his last loss. He would be another Ryan lite if he wins this race. Argh
That sounds nice but the Democrats have never had a seat there. I’ve been in the Washington 8th. That place is so crimson it makes the Red Wedding look like a nasty bar mitzvah.
“There’s not much change from previous strategies. Dino has always been a fiscal conservative with a social conscience."
It’s also known as the Unicorn or Loch Ness Monster strategy because those things don’t exist either.
"Dino has always been a fiscal conservative with a social conscience.”
No, no, and no again -Dino Rossi is a hard right fiscal and social conservative. He is not a centrist as stated further down in the piece. Plus he is a slime ball.
Watching them stand up against the rabid Tea Party GOP base is like watching the Constitutional Democrats in 1917 stand up against the Bolsheviks. Or maybe Bambi standing up against Godzilla.
Winning all the Republican-held districts that Hillary won should be the bare minimum Democrats get this year. Specials have had them running 8-20 points ahead of her vote.
WA-8 was redistricted in 2011. Local hero Reichert has won the three elections in this “historically red congressional seat” since the reconfiguration. WA-8 went for Hillary by three points in 2016. Trump’s trade war will hit agro hard. The cherry and apple farmers in WA-8 are not happy about losing their Chinese market.
Unfortunately, this really is shoddy reporting.
No mention of the fact that this is the most heavily gerrymandered district in WA state, done specifically so Reichert could hang onto his seat by clawing in his fingernails. They had to squeeze the district over the Cascade mountains to scrape enough votes to keep him in this seat. The district now includes more conservative parts of Western WA, but also much of Wentachee, which has a high immigrant quotient from former migrant workers. They may skew towards the conservative side there, but I dont think many of them buy into the anti-immigrant pap that trump and cronies traffic in.
Dino Rossi is a slimeball among slimeballs…within the state it honestly feels like he has run AND LOST about a dozen times, for like a dozen different offices --OK actually more like five times, but it seems like SO MANY more. The only real perception of him within the state is that he is a constant loser…he is NOT moderate, and he would rush to vote with trump and the R’s every chance he got. He may be saying he is against certain aspects of trump-world now…but that will vaporize if he is elected.
Luckily, to many WA state voters, he has about as much appeal as month old fish rotting in soggy newspaper at the back of the fridge…NO THANK YOU,
It may be Rossi’s seat to lose, but lose it he will! And hopefully take McMorris-rogers and some of the other rotting fish that masquerade as congressmen in eastern Washington with him,
