Discussion: 57 Of 103 Young Children Reunited With Parents, Trump Admin Declares Victory

Hey, that’s about par for the course for the Asshole-elect, who has always tried to screw vendors to end up paying 55 cents on the dollar.

Are you now doing PR for the Trump admin? (That’s about the best spin they could put on this.)

I said this elsewhere, so I apologize. One of the head lawyers for the ACLU (Lenert, Grenert?) said yesterday that, according to the original court order, these cases ARE NOT ineligible. That is a word that the Trump minions have applied to make their compliance look a little better. I’m waiting for comment from the judge.

I bet if they applied the same resources to reuniting families that they have to finding excuses not to, they could have reunited everybody by now.

About 55%–OK for a baseball team, unconscionable here. :rage:

One might think that the Trump administration failed to maintain a comprehensive set of records regarding these broken families because the White House originally never intended for these families to be reunited.
So is Team Trump malevolent … or merely incompetent?

“We go through the normal process we go through for the 12,000 kids that we currently have in our care.”

Fun Fact: The Nazis and their collaborators had as many as 1.5 million children in their “care.”

Bonus Fun Fact: During Pinochet’s reign of terror the young children of desaparecidos were given to the regime’s supporters.

IIRC, I E was foxed. What I din’t know is whether anybody did criminal bCkground chrcks on them or at least ran them through the sex offender registry.

Well, Agent Orange won the presidency with fewer votes than his opponent, so 57 of 103 (55%) is a landslide win in his eyes.

Almost certainly this guy:

He’s practically been a regular on All In with Chris Hayes (Hayes was early to this story and continues to cover it almost daily), and they had a longer conversation on Hayes’ new podcast:

Scroll down a bit for that episode and the transcript. (BTW, the podcast in general is fantastic, the kind of in-depth conversations that made Hayes’ old Up w/e show so good.)

They clearly never expected to have to reunite them, so they never bothered to have a plan. They literally don’t see these brown non-English-speakers as fully human.

After about a year of having their worst impulses tempered by their dysfunction, we’re now in the malevolence-exacerbated-by-incompetence phase of the Trump administration. They are monsters.

[Just saw that @labman57 sorta beat me to this, too…but they’re hardly merely incompetent.]

Thanks for digging out and posting this. (I can do academic research quite well, but my social media tech skills are really limited). I will take your recommendation and view the podcast.

My pleasure. (Search engines are your friends…) Audio podcast, btw.

This reminds me of an old Most Saul comment about Nixon, “If you were drowning 100 feet from shore, Nixon would toss you a 51 foot rope and then get on TV and tell the public he met you more than halfway.”

It’s worse than that. Alleged abuse by extended family members. So, you can’t have custody of your kid because Uncle Bob is a little creepy? What a pile of sh*t this excuse is.

I hope it has the word “contempt” in it.
