Discussion: 5 Points You Need To Know About The New Tax Bill Headed Trump's Way

Most significantly, a repeal of Obamacare’s individual mandate, which is expected to increase the number of uninsured Americans by at least 13 million.

So this is the one I completely don’t get. Rubio being spineless, that I get. Corker being mendacious, that I get. Collins being coy, then falling in line with the GOP, that I get.

But the health insurance companies are in the process of losing 13 million customers. And because these are the mandated ones, they’re among the best customers health insurance companies could ever want – these are young adults in their 20s and 30s who are healthy and won’t cost the health insurance companies much to insure. The ACA caused them to become customers in the first place, and now the GOP is taking millions of their customers and billions of dollars away, yet the health insurance companies appear to be watching them walk away without even a murmur from them. Why?

Five things you need to know:

  1. The bill is yet another gift to the rich.
  2. Working- and middle-class Americans get screwed again.
  3. The bill is partisan, favoring Republicans and harming Democrats.
  4. Hardly any respectable economist believes that the bill would help the economy more than it will hurt the economy.
  5. The deficit, about which Republicans used to say they cared, will explode.

Perhaps because many experts seem to think that most of those covered under the mandate will maintain health insurance coverage, so the insurers will not suffer financial disaster.

This brings it to three times the GOP has done this? Reagan ran up more debt than all 39 of his predecessors combined. Bush turned Clinton’s surpluses into deficits within his first year in office. Now they’re doing it a third time?

This part, at least, is by design. It’s the only way they will be able to sell gutting the safety net, which has been a dream of theirs for decades.

The only thing anyone really needs to understand about the Republican tax bill is that it puts economic inequality on overdrive.

The already advantaged get more advantage and pretty much everyone else is either at standstill or some degree of screwed; citizens of blue states get the 2nd degree of augur rotation in addition to that.

PS: This wasn’t Trump for a change, this is mainline Republican policymaking in action; no real national problems addressed, only the ones in their heads. it’s malevolence and venality tempered by incompetence all the way down.

Then those experts are idiots because if you find out you no longer have to pay for something you didn’t want in the first place people are going to bolt

Yep.

Very true.

Republicans, as a group, really do hate those who are not rich.

“The Senate bill fixed a lot of problems that could have hurt us in the midterms,” Rep. Chris Collins (R-NY) told reporters late last week.

This demonstrates beyond any reasonable doubt that Republicans knew in advance that the people they represent would not approve of the work they were elected to do on their behalf. Republicans know their ideologies are well outside of the mainstream, and are too radical for the American people. So, they dialed everything back a bit to make themselves look reasonable when, in fact, they were forced to stop short of their true mission to bankrupt this nation.

Because, corporations can’t talk or take actions. Only the people who work for those corporations can talk or take action, and those people want the tax break. They will gain enough money through the tax cut that they really don’t care if it harms their corporation.

OK, they are idiots, but they will be idiots with smaller tax bills.

Charming!

Although the standard deduction is almost doubled under trumptax, it provides very little tax relief for seniors. Seniors now get a standard deduction ($6,350) and one personal exemption ($4,050) and an additional standard deduction ($1,250). That adds up to $11,650 if you’re over 65. Under trumptax, seniors get a $12,000 standard deduction, so a whopping $350 in deductions for tax relief. The lowest rung of the tax table is the same now as it was before- 10 percent. Originally, trumptax changed it to 12 percent, which would have given most seniors a tax increase. So, seniors are getting 10 percent of $350 = $35 per year in tax relief, a little less than $3 per month under trumptax.

Since so many seniors are die hard trump supporters, I wonder if they are gonna feel gyped at so little while businesses and corporations are getting huge cuts?

Seniors who itemize lose the personal exemption and senior exemption under trumptax. If they normally itemize due to excessive medical bills or other reasons, they are gonna lose $5,300 in deductions under trumptax and most will get a tax increase of $530 under trumptax.

So “not one penny more” Bob Corker folded like the cheap suit all members of the GOP truly are.

Yes, those are the only 5 things we need to know.

They did it twice under W. First time reversed the surpluses, the second time helped set the stage for the implosion of 2008. This is time 4.
