Missed @lizzymom post
It appears that McMaster deserved to be left out to dry. His bizarre photo opp yesterday displayed no honor, integrity or brains. Another B List “celebrity” just like Donald has been his whole life.
Expect the final bogus report will be used by GOP states to pass voter suppression laws to be implemented in time for the 2018 election.
Kobach and Pence–that’s all you need to know.
Tierney is right in pointing to the “confidence” dodge. If you scream loudly enough that there’s fraud, that’s going to reduce confidence in election results among low-information voters regardless of whether there’s actually an fraud to speak of. So if you elevate “confidence” to a goal that outweighs, say, the right to vote, then the GOP is in great shape. Of course, you could have the same effect on “confidence” simply by not lying about in-person voting fraud, but what would be the point of that?
And, of course, there’s nothing in the commission’s marching orders that says anything about the effect on voters’ confidence in elections of targeted purges of voter rolls and carefully tailored ID requirements that block poor people from voting unless they’re willing to spend multiple days off work and a day or three worth of wages for that “free” voting ID.
Reps really did lose their minds when it became clear that the new generation was not interested in them. They just relied on the damn Boomers for too long
Apparently a knee-jerk reaction. McMaster seems to have read the WaPo headline, but not the article. Then he says that Trump didn’t do what the article also specifically stated that Trump didn’t do (reveal sources and methods). What he did was share information that was highly sensitive, a fact that McMaster failed to deny. Then, today Trump says, “Yeah, I did it – so what?” McMaster has been wraithed.
Josh has got it now. He even called it last night.
“All of us who work in this area know that measuring confidence in electoral rules is something that is both easy to do and amenable to gross manipulation,” Nate Persily, who served as a senior research director for President Obama’s Presidential Commission on Election Administration, told TPM over email.
Ah, this sounds just like the arguments the right uses when going after all the other things they go after. Once they fail to achieve something based on the merits or based on a simple “we don’t like X” argument, they reach and grasp and go with ever more ridiculous and indirect approaches to achieve their nefarious goals (and sometimes it works). E.g. abortion rights (saying abortion causes breast cancer or fetal tissue needs burial, and then passing laws that limit access to abortion providers, after failing to overturn Roe for years), the teaching of evolution (the right’s embrace of intelligent design after the “the bible doesn’t say anything about evolution” argument failed), gay marriage (religious freedom arguments after the “two men kissing, that grosses god out” argument failed).
Fascism says “nothing is true.” Your daily life is not important. The facts you think you understand are not important, all that matters is the myth. The myth of one nation together, the mystical connection with the leader. When we think of post truth we think it’s something new, we think it’s something on campuses, we think it’s something irrelevant. Actually what it does is pave the way for regime change. If we don’t have access to facts we can’t trust each other. If we can’t trust each other. Without trust there’s no law. With no law there’s no democracy. So if you want to rip the heart out of democracy directly, you want to go right at it and kill it what you do is go after facts.
Step 1 - you lie to yourself all the time.
Step 2 - you say it’s your opponents and the journalists who lie
Step 3 - Everyone looks around and says what is truth? There is no truth.
Then resistance is impossible
Step 4 - GAME OVER
T Snyder - On Tyranny
Trump is working to the old Stalin Quote: “It doesn’t matter who votes. It only matters who COUNTS the votes.”
But he is turning it around. “It only matters who VOTES. It doesn’t matter who COUNTS the votes.” (Lost general by over 3 million votes, but won the Electoral College by focusing on WHO voted, not how many.)
If they can game the Voting System the way they have successfully gamed the Gerrymandering of districts and the courts, they can have One-Party Rule for ever.
Look into a company called “Cambridge Analytics” funded by the Mercers. They have been involved in everything from Brexit to the US Elections and are a scary bunch.
They are behind every social media meme and campaign statement which influence elections targeting INDIVIDUALS with precision for their Psy-Ops campaigns.
You are being manipulated and you don’t even know it.
When the Orange Monster get promoted to the “B” List?
Question for the “Constitutional Conservatives”?
How is this Commission funded? Did Congress pass an appropriation? White House slush fund?
Elections are administered at the state and local level. Are you going to suggest or try to to override state and local law? Under what article or amendment to the Constitution?
Thanks for sharing that. I guess this sort of straight to the bone discussion is what differentiates something being edited in London and something being written by a major magazine here in America.
And in the meantime, one of the greatest anti American anti democratic acts of this century, widespread voter suppression, is happening in broad daylight right in front of our eyes and the outcry is - oh, wait a minute - what outcry?
Very.
The more this man’s insatiable ego gets threatened the crazier he is willing to get to counterattack the source of his pain. He is his own universe - we all (Ivanka included) are just sources of pleasure or pain to him. As the people around him grow more desperate to control him, the more scared I get.
The “leadership” of the Republican party has shown a willingness to tolerate this man’s obvious incapacity in pursuit of their one true goal (more and more money back to the already wealthy) beyond what I believed possible. I knew they were ideologues, I did not realize they were actual fanatics. I am having a hard time coming up with a parallel to how low they are willing to go to retain power. Maybe there multiple instances in our history of this as the pundits keep telling me, but I have been around and paying attention to politics since the 60’s and this feels lower than peak Watergate to me.
Me too
The difference
No Faux news
No Conservative entertainment complex back then Defending Nixon and the coverup.
These days it would have been…
“Anybody could have broken in to the Watergate maybe the Chinese”
Alex Jones and Rush
“It’s a Democratic conspiracy to frame Nixon , they burgled themselves”
and so on
This is where we are
The low information sociopath in the White House
At least Nixon was embarrassed enough to quit
They’ll take Trump out in a straight jacket
One similarity - WAPO is leading the charge once again. But this time all of the impeachable acts are lying around out in the open for anyone who bothers to look
