Discussion: 5 Points On The Threat Of Trump Issuing Pardons In The Russia Probe

Giuliani showed up in Ukraine a month or so ago doing “business” with some folks there. Not sure what went down but it looks highly suspicious.

“He can go lower than any of us consider possible”

Absolutely. He can and will produce an incredibly shiny object to divert from this investigation. He’s ruthless, soulless and has no morals or an ounce of humanity. Plus he’s fucking crazy.

Kylo Pardon? A lesser figure in the Star Wars galaxy.

O! Really? That sounds shady as shit.

Divert whom? He’s been trying since January 20 to divert attention from this and what it has gotten him is a Special Counsel and as many as 6 investigations.

IANAL, but I’d imagine a pardoned Flynn could be subpoenaed as a witness in various venues (before Congress, a Grand Jury or Trial Jury) and could not invoke the 5th against self-incrimination due to the pardon, compelling him to divulge more goodies on TrumpCo and Russia.
Not 100% certain on any of this.

The only remedy is impeachment. Pence, Ryan, McConnell and everyone else in succession want me to work until I die, just as badly as the Rump thinks I should. Throwing all those fuckers out should come first.

Hmm sounds metric to me.

Thanks for this! The question of presidential pardons has loomed over every article about Mueller’s progress. I very much appreciate the depth here.

Please let a lawyer correct me on this, but I’m under the impression that throwing someone in jail for refusing to testify is civil contempt and intended to be coercive rather than punitive. Hence not an “offense” for which someone could be pardoned. Someone who had been pardoned could perjure themselves and be pardoned for that, but it would take some very fast trick-rodeo pardon-issuing to keep up with the prospective issues there. And a determined prosecutor could still put them through hell. (Remember as an example that Starr arrested Lewinsky and held her without access to counsel because he had ostensibly received information that she was about to commit the crime of submitting an affidavit containing false information.)

Once again trump shows off his home schooling acumen.
Weather is not climate. Climate is what happens over extended periods of time…years and decades, not day to day. Most people with two working synapses get this. trump’s stupidity is insulting. The tome of his tweet is insulting. He very obviously hates science of any sort. It follows then that he should hate medicine. That medical exam he has coming? May it include an “old school” prostate exam.
I so hope he gets comeuppance at some point.

I was a scientist and I take it personally when trump belittles science. I am trying to not use the h.a.t.e. word in relation to him but it’s getting harder and harder to control that feeling.
Science is not politics. It’s just facts. Measurable … evidence based… facts. trump would rather just make shit up.

There is also this breaking: Trump just gave one of the NYT reporters an impromptu interview in Florida. Trump said “I have the absolute right to do anything I want with the Justice Department. For right now, I’m staying uninvolved because I think Mueller will be fair to me.” Yes, that first sentence is a direct quote. 1) That doesn’t bode well for our system of government and 2) It’s an omen of the rash actions that Trump will take if Mueller doesn’t play nice.

I wonder where trump gets this odd ball idea he can do whatever he wants with the DOJ.
The last time he tried that trick (as in firing Comey) it didn’t work out too well because it brought him Bob Mueller and Mueller’s gonna hound him. It began as a Congressional committee looking into Russian meddling and because trump cannot leave well enough alone it’s grown into a criminal investigation of trump’s meddling in the DOJ
Trump is behaving as he would in a business situation and this is anything but a business situation.

Wait until you hear what else Trump said . . . It is being treated as breaking news right now on MSNBC. Apparently Trump’s staff did not know about or approve of this interview. If I ever thought we all might be overplaying his mental instability, this interview confirms how really ill he is. (John Harwood just called the interview “deeply disturbing”) Trump claims he’s assured of a second term because the press and TV media need him for ratings (“They will be helping me get re-elected to save themselves.”), says he knows more about taxes than the greatest CPA, and worst of all, seemed to imply that he is going to agitate against the Chinese because they aren’t doing what he wants.

I’ve been saying for the last eleven months to my mother, who is now seventy-seven, that if she exhibited such behavior at seventy-one, “I would have you committed!” And she agreed it would be a good idea.
