Discussion: 5 Points On McMaster’s Defense Of POTUS Divulging Highly Classified Info

“The real issue, what I would like to see debated more, is national security has been put at risk by those violating confidentiality and those releasing information to the press that can be used connected with other information available to make American citizens and others more vulnerable,” McMaster told reporters.

“Turn off the lights. Turn them off!” McMasters added, as he ran toward a thick row of shrubbery.

One more formerly respected public servant flushes his reputation and integrity down the toilet for the sake of Trump. (I would say “sad” but lately I can’t bring myself to use this perfectly fine English word.)

Knowing this White House, DJT is probably the source of the leaks. Trying to prove to someone how smart and how much information he has.

Someone said in another thread that it behooves the IC to give him only false intelligence from now on. Funny, but I think it must come to that. Give him a one sheet with six bullets stroking his ego. How will he know the difference. Cut him off. Leave him to be the figurehead. Let professionals run the government and tell our allies.

Trump says Putin asked if Trump would meet with Lavrov and Kislyak in the Oval Office, and Trump said “Of course. Am I going to tell him ‘No’?”

If I was Putin, I would call Trump back and ask if Trump would allow the FSB to set up shop in a corner of the Oval Office, just a small corner that can accommodate a desk, a Russian “photographer”, laptop and satellite dish. Surely the Idiot-in-Chief would agree.

Leaks are the ‘real issue’ here!

And they don’t see the irony of saying that the leak about the BIGGER LEAK, is the problem….

An Intel expert should follow him around whispering misleading Intel in his ear like Gary does for Selina in Veep.

Shorter McMaster: “The real crime here isn’t that the President gave highly classified information to the Russians, but that the American people found out about it.”

Josh wrote,

McMaster insisted that the President “in no way compromised any sources and methods.”

What seems widely overlooked is that it is vital from a national security standpoint that allied secret services believe this.

It is probably futile, but McMaster has to try to project this.

Please note how this is for instance reported in Germany. The headlines are: “Trump undermines the security of the West”.

The point being, that allied services will now no longer feel that it is safe to share sensitive information with the US, and that the integration and coordination that stepped up significantly after 9/11 will unravel.

But at some point he will make a consequential decision, such as launching nuclear armed missiles, based on this information. The false intelligence is as likely to lead to a disaster as true intelligence. The only way to fix the problem is by removing both the information and power of decision from him. But our democracy can not survive if that removal is done secretly and/or outside of the legal framework. Therefore, impeachment is the only way out and it is needed urgently.

No, they don’t. When I told one Trump supporter (who is not a stupid person) I know what happened, his response: “We all make mistakes.” !!!

I think we should call donnie The Big Leaker. Covers a couple of his nefarious claims to fame.

“The President wasn’t even aware where this information came from,” McMaster told reporters. “He wasn’t briefed on the source or method of the information either.”

Followup questions:

  • Would it be possible for Russian Intelligence to figure out what the source of the information was from the information disclosed by the president?
  • Was the intelligence source concerned that the president disclosed this information to Russian officials?
  • Did this disclosure threaten future intelligence sharing?

baby step that your Trump friend sees it as a mistake?

Foreign Policy asked the question a few weeks ago whether Trump is “stupid or nefarious.” I am definitely leaning towards “stupid” now. He is so consumed by vanity there is no room for an intelligent thought upstairs.
