You know how people courteously wish the opposition party to succeed for the sake of the nation? I really don’t think that applies in this case. Let us pray the GOP goes down in flames over this, finally exposed for good and all as the utter frauds they have always been.
Amen to that.
Pelosi is calling the R plan, “Make America Sick Again.”
They really can’t help themselves, can they?
How can this be allowed under reconciliation when it will almost certainly INCREASE the deficit?
The republicans just change the rules. Rules are for weaklings and democrats.
His tweeting thumbs are turned UP. Guess what ‘STUPID’ you’re NOT going to get the better of Obama, YOU AIN’T SMART ENOUGH. Russia’s little secrets are going to be your downfall.
IMPEACH IT.
Every man for himself. Every woman for her husband.
This plan just has 2 parts that matter: block grants to take money out of Medicaid (to allow tax cuts for the wealthy), and an end to the individual mandate to create a death spiral in the non-group insurance market. The rest is just for talking points.
Overall, though, this is such a mess that it smells of the GOP house passing the buck and blaming others for its eventual failure.
So, basically a giant step backwards with shaky numbers at a time when we need legitimate reform.
They are replacing one complicated insurance focused law with another. At least the ACA had helping control medical costs as a goal. It was also focused on making sure poor people had regular coverage. Until the focus is delivering the best care at reduced cost none of the Rube Goldberg legislative contraptions is going to work.
And the irony is that under Obamacare they could have gotten treatment for that…
I see the mail order bride is on a short leash this week. Been a busy week with all the interruptions into the trumpidy plans for all those other people. No sense wasting a good photo op.
The pic, Slovenia, russian and china and the guy in the back slipping on all the BS
You are absolutely right. Thank you for making the point. I have tried to make the same point at least a half dozen times here at TPM, but have obviously failed in my efforts because this article totally misses the point. It says that the changes must “affect” the budget. No. They must “reduce” the budget deficit in order to escape a filibuster. Unless the fix is in with the Senate Parlimentarian.
Here is how it works. In the Senate, you can only get around the filibuster in one way. The change must come as part of the Reconciliation process as part of the consideration of the Budget bill. Moreover, under the Byrd Rule, the change must reduce (repeat: reduce) the budget deficit that would otherwise occur. From the current descriptions of the Republican House bill, the changes would increase the budget deficit, not reduce it. Thus, the Republicans would need to get 60 votes in the Senate, which they will never get.
Yep. It has to REDUCE the deficit and this will INCREASE it. Simple. Moreover, since Rand is against this and possibly some other GOPers too, I don’t even know if they can get 50 votes, let alone 60.
And the reason we are going in this direction is all about tax cuts for the wealthy and unlimited access to profits for their big healthcare based donors. And in that sense it will work. Actually getting healthcare to people who cannot afford it is not and has never been a Republican goal. Their only concern in that direction is whether anything they do might hurt their chances of retaining and grabbing even more power. Nobody believes this will actually help more people get healthcare - their cynicism is bottomless on this.
This is why they are right and you are wrong.
OG…beee careful what you ask for TRUMP. Ya NEVER know what may be revealed. If there was a wiretape I’d say he asked for it. He asked Russia to hack SOMEMORE. hE ENCOURAGED THE hacking,
Yeah I have mixed emotions. I really don’t want folks to have to die over this, but sadly I think it’s going to take Rs killing people for some folks to finally realize what they propose is shit.
