Discussion: 5 Points On Carter Page’s Meandering Testimony To House Intel Committee

The Steele dossier is looking more and more accurate over time. Page’s testimony confirms key portions. The only remaining open issue, and the one most entertaining to many of us, is when will Putin or his agents release the “Pee Pee” tape of Trump and the Russian hookers?

This guy clearly needs more rope. Miles and miles of rope.

Why would they do that (release the tapes)? They are leverage. Only if Putin decides it is best to have Pence as President would he release any such tapes. Or am I missing something obvious?

I was amused at the description of the exchange with Gowdy. Both that this annoying twerp got under that annoying/twerp/Congressman’s skin, and that the annoying/twerp/Congressman made the other one (page) squirm a little bit.

Blah, blah, blah. Nothing of interest here, move along…

This thread by Seth Abramson, who is more familiar with the details than anyone, suggests that there is much more to the Carter testimony than this piece would have it. It’s a bit long, because he was tweeting in real time, but the stuff towards the end is particularly interesting:

Page said he understood their concerns and lamented that he was “the biggest embarrassment surrounding the campaign.”

Boy! You must think an awful lot of yourself if you think you’re the biggest embarrassment surrounding T rump’s campaign. But, i admit that your perspective is undoubtedly limited by your lowly position in life, in general. Better luck next time.

Can we get Mr. Page in front of Senator Franken? Under Oath? Please?

Leverage is only useful when it can be used to get something in return. If anything, the PP presidency has made things tougher for Putin. The new sanctions passed may not have been as tough or may have given the president more leeway under Clinton. But his own actions and overtures toward Putin have made it impossible to lift the Magnitsky Act or give him anything he wants. And there’s nothing PP’s going to be able to do about that. But the thing about blackmail/kompromat is that if you never use it, especially after the person you’re blackmailing doesn’t deliver the goods, it loses its effectiveness with others.

Papadopoulos brought the coffee and Page offered butter for the rolls. Cute kids; figured they’d give 'em a little something to do to earn a buck get some volunteer experience.

Gilligan Page is a pathetic, damaged human being. He is proof (for those who need it) that having college degrees does not translate to being intelligent or sane.

Nothing better for a prosecutor than a witness who keeps talking. Most advice from criminal defense lawyers to their clients boils down to, “Shut up!”

Page told lawmakers he understood Trump staffers’ concerns and lamented that he was “the biggest embarrassment surrounding the campaign.”

No, that distinction would go to someone else…

Trump has his hands in money streams and development projects all over the globe. Just because Putin can’t use the tapes to leverage gains for Russia today, doesn’t mean he can’t use the tapes to leverage gains for himself or his cronies 2, 5, or 10 years in the future.

If there are really tapes of this event, they will hurt Trump whether he is President or after, when he has returned to the private sector. Releasing them now gains nothing for Putin because of the mess that Trump has made of Washington. But holding them over his head until the day he dies could reap rewards for the oligarchy.

I agree. Putin might enjoy watching the drama/chaos unfold but in the long run it is going to bite him in the butt. Already, his tactics are known across the western world and his “success” with Trump has been a huge warning to other western countries. The sanctions are already getting worse for him and he will never get the Magnitsky Act lifted. The IC is embarrassed/shamed for letting this happen and they will not stop until someone pays. Putin over reached and left himself exposed.

I believe that is going to be one of the main focal points of Schilling’s closed doors testimony. Chief bodyguard being asked specifically about that 2013 visit? NOT asking about it would be a shock.

Better than Page would be Hope Hicks.
