Discussion: 40 Colorado Sheriffs Send Letter Opposing Gitmo Detainee Transfer

Discussion for article #242697

OK… since they insist on living in Bizarro World I assume this really means they are volunteering their ‘fiefdoms’ as the place to park the rest of the detainees…

You cant pick the prisoners, and still reap the benefits of the employment provided. Dismissed.

Bunch of yellow bellied cowards.

Their pearl clutching is beyond stupid. They’ve seen too many movies that have them convinced of the immediacy and simplicity of attacking, overwhelming a prison and freeing prisoners. Just stop it.

“We believe it would be dangerously naive not to recognize that a civilian prison with an untold number of enemy combatant inmates, located in our state, would provide a very tempting target for anyone wishing to either free these detainees or simply wishing to make a political statement,” the sheriffs wrote.

So true. Look at the multitude of attacks terrorist sympathizers have successfully mounted on Guantanamo. The U.S. casualties alone are too horrible to contemplate. Oh, wait...................

If I recall things correctly, the problem with Gitmo was that these guys were being held without due process; this was the basis of shutting it down.

Closing Gitmo does not solve this basic question, it only makes us feel better. Why should Colo. pick up the pieces of a National Problem?

Bedwetters.

It’s politically useful for the sheriffs to appear to indulge themselves in this kind of public paranoia. Stirs the blood of their fellow traveler NRA friends. Makes them feel important. Gets them press. Justifies their investing in paramilitary gear and practicing “deploying to secure the perimeter” and “order the armored vehicles” little boy playing soldier games.

This was clearly organized through Republican or other right wing political channels as yet another means of negatively impacting the Obama administration; that’s the larger political agenda.

It also has the unrecognized downside of the sheriffs admitting that they are incapable of securely housing prisoners.

Does it not occur to the Pentagon that this sort of thing does not have to be shared with the media?

When did western lawmen become such pussies?

The whole country has been pissing down their legs since Owsley, Manson and Hendrix passed through the turnstile.

1: It’s not there call.
2: There have been no sympathetic attacks on Gitmo
3: We are not as stupid as these Sheriffs think we are. They’re advancing a trite Conservative trope and really should drop that and get back to work.

Golly, but these so-called ‘peace’ officers shore do seem to be fraidy cats. They have no faith in their ability to to outsmart imaginary terrorists.

Rather disgusting collection of incompetent cowards, these so-called “Peace officers”. CO is very progressive in several ways, not to mention among them the legalization of MJ, and now the coming Single-Payer Health Insurance for CO citizens. But, the law remains rather fascist. We call our state police “Nazis” privately, because they are so over-the-top willing to arrest / ticket anyone for the most laughable infractions, just to make their daily quota of traffic stops. Actually, most local law enforcement is reasonable in CO. But, not these ignorant, incompetent, idiotic sheriffs, the ugly underbelly of CO citizenry (we were bound to have a bunch of assholes somewhere around here).

Because it is their patriotic duty.

And it is no greater burden than the people they already have who the Islamist might want to rescue. Probably not to mention one or two drug lords.

And 35 is not some untold number.

Beside they are the ultimate good guys with guns. That’s supposed to be worth something!
