Discussion: 4 Teens In Custody For Brazen Gang Rape Of Woman At Brooklyn Playground

That’s misleading, I think you misunderstood the article. According to the article, it took police 20 minutes after the gang approached the father and daughter. The father had no cell phone, and as you said, the bodega refused to help. So no one called 911. The father was running around the neighborhood trying to find a Patrol Car and finally found one and flagged them down. Police then immediately responded.

Reaction time of the people in the bodega and neighborhood I suppose. But of course some people there are already blaming the police. Unreal. But most of the people there are blaming the perps, you just don’t get to see them on TV of course.

It’s on video. Sheesh, one case out of tens of thousands is bad, but you apply it to all of them.

Reminds me of people who won’t believe anything they read in the NY Times because “Jayson Blair!!!”

Yes, these are the low life scum, and I hope they get the 5th one too.

When you enable crime by make more arrests for crack than cocaine, it just goes to show that by making excuses for animal behavior, you just get more and worse behavior. Oh, wait…

Prison is the best school for crime.

Yes, and you never see them on TV. Well, sometimes on local TV. A few days ago a cop was shot in the Bronx. Local TV showed a lot of outraged black people in that neighborhood saying this shit has to stop, and blaming the real perps, the ones who live in that community. Those people that you never see on national TV actually want more police presence. That’s the reality. I live here in the city, and I know lots of cops, some FBI, etc. And I am out late a lot for my work (lots of construction is off hours), and there are many areas that are just plain scary. And I see black people who live in fear in their own neighborhoods. And Mayor DeBlasio has been no help at all (and no, neither has Patrick Lynch, he’s a flaming a-hole). Bill Thompson was the right choice for Mayor, by far. Hopefully NYer’s will see that next time.

were you replying to me or nickdanger? hard to tell sometimes with the unfortunate way this commenting system was designed.

As a 43-year NYC resident, I must point out that you are completely full of shit.

Longtime NYC resident here, and I thank you for your comprehensive answer to the never-ending bullshit we see from people who don’t live here.

I’m in the exact same boat – lived in NYC since 1973 and I’ve been mugged three times, twice at knifepoint and once at gunpoint, and never in any of those times did I wish I had a gun. Whether I had killed a man, or had it taken from me and been killed as a result, the end result of my not having a gun during any of those events is that I’m here today to talk about it, without the awful recriminations of my conscience for having taken a life over the $30 in my wallet.

Nonsense. Animals commit some brutal crimes against each other over sex, power, food, etc. Seriously, are you kidding with that comment? Oh, they don’t have police, courts, law, etc., but if you think the animal kingdom lives in peace and no “bad guys”, you are mistaken.

I believe in the jury system, innocence until proven guilty, and investigative journalism. I’m a friend of one of the attorneys for the Central Park 5, and am the daughter of a 30 year NYPD veteran. I have a pretty good idea of how important it is to let the justice system, however imperfect, have its day.

Then you do not know many people. I know lots of people here in NYC, and it’s a mixed bag of answers for sure. And that’s the reality, see the link from a 2012 poll, when it was most controversial.

Of all adults, 49% say acceptable, 45% say excessive.
Even for blacks, 35% say it is acceptable. And the majority of hispanics say it is acceptable.

To imply that all NYers are either for, or against, the policy is just false.

The right move was to only have stop and frisk if the cop has a body cam. There were definitely “abuses” under stop and frisk, and they were wrong no doubt. But on the other hand, thousands of guns are off the street, and there are lots of people who were afraid to carry their illegal weapons, a very good thing.

It’s not an all or nothing thing. It’s a policy that worked a lot of times, but also needed some serious modifications.

Thank god there’s only one person approving this comment., and naturally it’s the mindless bigot ND. The fact that crime is down across the city is apparently irrelevant to the hateful and the misguided.

Three-quarters of New York City voted for Bill de Blasio but Mr Comments knows better. I can just imagine the submissive Bill Thompson, whose largest financial backer in the 2013 mayoral race was former Republican senator and all-around geek Al D’Amato, as a crusading city saver – oh geez!

Didn’t read my comment, did you? I know he got elected in 2013 by a landslide. And any Democrat would have, the Republican candidate was a joke.

As of November, his approval rating was down to 38%, the lowest ever. So most New Yorker’s agree with me, not you. So based on facts I do know better. Additionally, his rating has dipped among both black and Latino voters.

He will not be re-elected. And yes, Bill Thompson was the far better choice for Mayor. But he’s not a “Hollywood” type guy, he’s just a smart guy. He came close to beating Bloomberg in Bloomberg’s second term despite being outspent by a huge margin. Top notch guy.

DeBlasio was fine as a consumer advocate. He sucks as a Mayor. Think Ralph Nader. Good guy for a certain role, just not a competent leader.

According to this, crime was lower under Bloomberg in 2009, 2010 and 2011. DeBlasio inherited that trend.

In fact, if you want to just go by crime stats decreasing, that would make Giuliani a great Mayor, much better than Bloomberg or DeBlasio. I disagree, but using your logic that would be true.

“Didn’t read my comment, did you? I know he got elected in 2013 by a landslide. And any Democrat would have, the Republican candidate was a joke.”

And yet Bill Thompson was one of those Democrats who was crushed by De Blasio. Do you read what you write? Your “He sucks as Mayor” is based on what exactly? Approval ratings? Please. You want to discuss Obama’s approval ratings vis a vis his actual performance? Did that poll you cite suggest that people wished they had voted for Bill Thompson, or was that your own idiot suggestion?

Whether De Blasio inherited the lower crime stats or had any influence is irrelevant. The crime stats are LOWER. Your comment suggesting that people live in fear was 100% bullshit. I’ve lived in Manhattan for 43 years. There is no fucking fear. Who the hell are you talking to?

I knew it was pointless to engage you. You are incapable of recognizing the bullshit you spew. But your lies and fear-mongering are sickening to anyone who has lived in this City for more than even one decade. much less four, as I have. Stop lying. You make me fucking sick.

No, I showed you the chart. They were lower under Bloomberg.

No comparison. Obama has half a country of idiots as part of that polling. NYC is mostly Democrats.

Obama’s approval rating among Democrats is about 85%.

DeBlasio’s is 61%.

That’s a HUGE difference.

I’ve lived in Manhattan for my whole life, over 60 years. And there are in fact people in the boroughs who live in fear. Perhaps you just stay in Manhattan, which is quite safe.

I’m quoting facts.

And 61% approval rating among his party clearly proves that a Republican-backed candidate would have been better?

Are you out of your fucking mind?

“And I see black people who live in fear in their own neighborhoods.” – that’s your idea of “quoting facts”? LOL

NYC crime stats continue to go down. Bloomberg was the beneficiary of a national trend of urban crime falling off. De Blasio is mayor now, when crime stats continue to drop. Stop lying.

What??? Who the hell said that? No way a Republican would have been better, I said the Republican candidate was a joke. You are making stuff up. Unless you don’t even realize Bill Thompson is a DEMOCRAT. And he would have a much higher approval rating if he had been elected because he is competent, not “showtime”.

Did you even read your links, or just the headlines? The first link shows Bloomberg has better numbers. The second link says all of America was down, so how is that DeBlasio? It also says NYC had the lowest murder rate ever in 2009. Under Bloomberg.

Your second link also says that putting more people in jail has kept criminals off the street. You are saying you agree we need more people in jail? Because I don’t.

Once again, he will not be re-elected. He’s showman, he has no leadership skills. He has shown that.

Had you actually read the earlier comment, you would have learned (I know that’s a foreign word for you) that Bill Thompson’s largest financial backer in the 2013 mayoral race was REPUBLICAN AL D’AMATO.

Bill Thompson (New York politician) - Wikipedia (“According to a report in the New York Times, former New York Republican Senator Al D’Amato was Thompson’s largest financial backer as of May 2013.”)

Read the fucking comments, moron, before you embarrass yourself.

By the way, the first link confirms that the numbers continue to drop, and the second link offers a variety of reasons for why it’s happening. Naturally, you isolate three sentences to create a rebuttal, while ignoring the gist of the article about the various reasons for a drop in crime, none of which involve proactive policies by Bloomberg.

Isn’t it time you got real? Are you really going to shuffle off this mortal coil by proving yourself a total dick?

As long as rapists of all races get treated and punished the same way. And we don’t assume that just because some folks of a particular race commit a crime, that they all will. I think this is the biggest problem facing blacks in this country.

Truthfully I think we have a lot less control of our actions than we’d realized and are more under the control of some combination of our brain biochemical makeup, architecture, and circumstances we’ve lived through. So I hope one day we can cure a lot of these mentally driven crimes like we can a lot of physical diseases. And until we do we need to try and rehabilitate all types of criminals as much as we can.

How ludicrous. Our brain biochemistry IS our person. If you blame brain biochemistry while exempting the person, who is in there doing anything?

With these 5 animals, my guess is that peer pressure was partially responsible for this dreadful situation. Most or all of them are under 18. That is the “circumstance” to which you refer. That’s a large factor in many crimes of groups, I agree. One idiot of that age can get others doing incredibly stupid things, and this rape may be part of it. During the adolescent time, our moral sense is being developed. Apparently these children have no moral sense.
