I believe the description for this is: “Balls of solid rock.” How come the anonymous thing got more press than McRaven’s spear in the face?
Because McRaven was one of the loser generals that had to be shown by Trump how to win the War of Terror.
Under previous presidents, there have been resignations on principle over policy and abuse of power. But Trump is the first president to drive people out by being a militantly ignorant and bigoted asshole.

This is the Admiral that wrote the OpEd that said “fire me, too” back in August. I thought this was a NEW “scathing OpEd” that was published and then he resigned.
Further, he has resigned from an advisory board, that was probably not taking his participation seriously.
The implication was this was a new defection and standing up to Trump…sorta kinda not so much. Disappointing, but a good thing anyway, I guess.

You are all reading this wrong. He is no Trump fan*. But he is a career military guy and not prone to partisan rhetoric. If you are an old school patriot then you say out loud that you want your president and commander in chief to succeed. What he is really saying here is that Trump is a colossal failure and nothing short of divine intervention is going to make him live up to the greatness of the office.
*For example, here is McRaven in 2017 after Trump’s media are the “enemy of the people” remarks. Mind you he is saying this as chancellor of the University of Texas:
“We must challenge this statement and this sentiment that the news media is the enemy of the American people,” McRaven said, according to the Daily Texan. “This sentiment may be the greatest threat to democracy in my lifetime.”
You are totally mis-characterizing what he is saying. He is calling him a miserable failure. McRaven is no Trump fan.
He has been standing up to Trump for quite a while, actually. This is just deeds following words. He savaged Trump for revoking Brennan’s clearance, and he resigned from even having an advisory role with the administration even though his participation on a Defense Dept Advisory committee was probably a good thing for the military. It’s what people of true principles do.
