Discussion: 37 Percent Of Mississippi GOPers Would Back Confederates In Civil War

Discussion for article #225040

Why not poll the entire confederate states? When you get right down to it, refighting the Civil War is the last option for the GOPTP.

Some 150 years after the original war and we have a Black President. Things are not going well with the ā€œSouth Will Rise Againā€.

So, maybe THEY should not be allowed to vote?

Seriously, someone answers a direct question asking if they would commit treason and they say ā€œYESā€ resoundingly, if there was ever a disqualifier for voting rights, it would be that answer from them, certainly more than NOT HAVING AN ā€œOFFICIALā€ I.D.

No doubt the very same people who so jovially espoused sedition also consider themselves paramount patriots. Cognitive reasoning is one thing, but their ability to maintain two mortally opposing ideologies and be proud of both of them as if they arenā€™t self-nullifying, is just dumbfounding.

The fact they do not consider it treason, nor do they remember that it was all based on chattel slavery, is at the root of many of our current racial issues.

What do these bigots do when they are behind closed doors? Is there ever one among them who will stand up to their lies? Or do they just devolve into racist rants and hateful rhetoric whenever thereā€™s no real adult around?

Whenever I hear ā€œThe Southā€™s Gonna Rise Againā€ I wonder where their new slaves will come from.

Well, after the chant they usually throw their glasses into the fireplace. So I think it will be a mixture of the poor, women and children.

Yeah, generally Iā€™m against tests for voting, but not promoting treason seems reasonable.

Iā€™m surprised the percentage isnā€™t higher.

While I like the clip, that movie creates the impression that somehow the FBI was aiding the civil rights movement, and nothing could be further from the truth.

ā€œThe South Shall Rise Againā€™ā€ is not just a movie reference in this part of the country.
They REALLY WANT to ā€œtake back Americaā€ to the 1840ā€™s when only WHITE PRIVILEGE existed and people were bought and sold on the open market (not just politicians like today.)
The Neo-Confederates form the CORE of the Tea-Party and always have.

I want to see this question asked of GOP members nationally. Surely itā€™s at least 30%.
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was making it ho-hum, not newsworthy, just another ordinary day in ordinary America where one major political party happens to harbor hundreds if not thousands of treasonous anti-American extremists. This just in! Cute puppy video! Highlights at 11.

Further proof racism is dead in America, right SCOTUS?

Considering their finances they would, once again, be marching into battle barefoot and armed with muskets. Or on their Hoveroundsā€¦

So, in that case barefoot isnā€™t as much of a drawback as it once was?

I wonder if Neo-Confeds ever stop to consider
what the world at large and this continent in particular would have experienced in historical terms if the South did make a clean break. The CSA would exist and slavery would have continued, but forever? If not, how would it have ended?

What of the western territories? Would the USA have retained control over them or would there have been a fight over them?

Would a USA without the Confederate states have had the means and will to enter WWI? Would we have had a fleet at Pearl Harbor at all? Could Japan have made the Pacific a ā€˜Japanese Lakeā€™? Who would have stopped Hitler, and if the answer is the USSR, who would have stood up to them?

Just some thoughts for the peckerwoods.
