Discussion: 30K Oklahoma Teachers Expected To Rally For Education Funding At Capitol

Isn’t Oklahoma the state with the lowest teacher salaries and haven’t they gone to a 4 day school week? I don’t understand why Republicans are so hostile to their children being educated.

I read an interesting thread over the weekend. Basically, the premise was that the 1980 red wave actually happened well before the 1980, and started with the California tax Proposition. That was sort of a harbinger that quickly spread throughout the country and helped turn so many local and state…and ultimately federal…seats red.

It was proposed, a similar event is happening now with all of these teacher rallies/strikes in red states. That they are essentially reversing those tax lock downs and creating a blue wave already.

Not sure if its true or not, but it was an interesting read

That sounds right. If you can remember where you read it - please post - I would be interested in reading it. Thanks.

It was a thread on twitter. I’ll try to dig through my follows and see if I can find it, but I forgot to tag it at the time. (Been a busy weekend, we got a new office, had to move a bunch of equipment in, and then spent the past two days drumming up petitions to get candidates on ballot to run against Gaetz).

It’s Corey Robin’s argument. https://twitter.com/CoreyRobin?ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^serp|twgr^author

About a third of the districts have had to go to four day weeks. Maybe a bit more. The teacher salaries have been the lowest in the nation.

The teachers are up-front about West Virginia and the power of protests and walkouts being an inspiration. Here is a video from Vice News where the GOP state rep and Chair of the appropriations committee, who incidentally was the shop teacher and wrestling coach at my junior high school, admits that walkouts were the reason that this time the legislation for teacher pay raises passed. Take note, people.
