Discussion: 300 Ex-Obama Staffers Urge Warren To Run For President

Discussion for article #231121

Elizabeth Warren is where she needs to be…

Why burden her with a campaign and a risk of being elected?

I would support her…she has a record of not just having principles, but also standing up for them and not caving. After the debacle last night - “lead Dems” sold out the working people who once made small campaign donations - that is no longer worth the effort. The political world will be ONLY focused on the Oligarchs and their whims with any of the other candidates I have read about.

I’m torn but generally agree. One of the problems is the huge number of people who firmly believe in the Green Lantern theory of Presidential power. They believe the perfect candidate will solve all our problems but, such high expectations, it’s a long way to fall.

Cue the “she can’t win” buzzkillers…

I’m getting a bit worried by this Warren “bandwagon.” I believe her when she says she’s not interested in running and, anyhow, I believe she can be most successful as the liberal conscience in the coming Democratic minority in the Senate.

My worry is that people supporting her now will lose interest in the campaign if she’s not the candidate, and thereby cede the 2016 election to whatever execrable candidate the Republicans pick. That would be a disaster.

¨Some other top Obama aides, including 2012 campaign manager Jim Messina, have aligned themselves with a Clinton candidacy.¨

Jim Messina also threw in with the Tories. He can go eff himself.

It’s certainly true that my expectations of a Clinton presidency are so low that any let down would be manageable, But that’s a depressing way to approach a presidential election.

It’s nice that Warren is so popular, but she’s said repeatedly that she isn’t running.
And she shouldn’t.

She lacks the necessary experience, and she’s much better positioned to be the progressive voice for the party—thereby moving the candidate (Hillary or whomever) to the left----and making sure that the GOP gets called out for its misfeasance, malfeasance, and generally shitty record at governance.

I’m a big fan of Warrren’s—but she cannot win a national election any more than Bernie Sanders can.

Both of them are where they should be, doing what they should do, and we need to support their efforts wholeheartedly.

I want Warren to run for the POTUS. I also know she won’t win, but by engaging in an active, agressive primary, her message will force the discussion of issues in the Progressive direction. Her candidacy will force HRC, and the Republican field, to defend BAU, or ideas that will harm the American middle class, and further enrich Wall Street. She needs to run with a megaphone to spread her message as loudly, and as clearly, and as widely, and as strongly as possible. This nation needs her views actively discussed in the political arena. If she does not run, those issues will remain unspoken, and we will all be the worse for it.

I look at it as preparing myself to be pleasantly surprised.

She’s the one. Don’t tell me that Reid and Obama aren’t loving her showcasing the real Democratic stance on the economy. She is a gifted ‘explainer’ and she comes across as thorough and sincere to a public often skeptical of HRC.

I hope she runs and wins. It will be hard for the opposition to find any ‘dirt’ on her, other than the fact that she has Native American ancestry, which Scott Brown infamously tried to ‘smear’ her with!

Everything you said about Warren was said about a guy named Barack Obama.

Yes, it was.

But he wanted to run—and she doesn’t.

If the Democratic Party wants my vote in 2016, they need to put a real reformer on the ballot, and Hillary Clinton isn’t one.

Hillary Clinton is driven by personal ambition, while Elizabeth Warren is driven by social conscience. Thus, Clinton’s positions are determined by what benefits her, while Warren’s positions are determined by what benefits the nation.

How do you know what she wants? We only know what she’s saying – no, no, no! Just like Obama. If you will recall, he said NO WAY until late 2006 – two years before the election. Just like now.

So, if it’s Hillary on the ballot, you’ll vote for the Republican? Or just not vote, thereby increasing the likelihood of a Republican?

You keep saying that same thing, and it remains a stupid thing to say.

All politicians run because of personal ambition—including Warren.

You have no idea how Hillary Clinton arrives at her positions on the issues—you just want to be insulting.

Warren’s positions also benefit her, even if only secondarily.

Stop pretending that you know how either of these women thinks.

Because of her history, I assume that what she says is what she wants.

That doesn’t mean she can’t or won’t change her mind—but I doubt it.

If any of you who don’t think she has the credentials to run, if you have seen her working behind the scenes to try to stop the dems from voting with the repukes and how she communicates, then you all should take a second look. While I feel she is more effective as a senator, she is just what this country needs to get disgusted folks back to the polls to vote.
