When I was going to high school and college in the 60s and early 70s, my parents and I lived in Orange County, CA. It has always been ultra conservative and the Anahaim area was basically John Birch Society central. My HS chemistry teacher was a member and open about it. He used to tell us about his backyard bomb shelter and how the Red Chinese were on the verge of taking over. Strange sort of person.
I’m not surprised at the long history of Klan activities in Orange County, CA.
I read that William Rehnquist used to personally scrutinize voter credentials at his local precinct. I’m not saying he was a klansman but something tells me he wasn’t vetting white people.
