Discussion: 2020 Dems Clamor For Barr To Resign

Hope questions about resignation won’t dominate the media. Candidates can’t do much about impeachment and resignation. Better have their eye on the biggest prize.

He is, in fact, a disgrace, a purely corrupt tool of a corrupt administration, and has to be forced to resign. Kamala’s image is there for a reason. I thought when she asked him if he’d been asked to open any investigations yesterday she was talking about Clinton, but it seems from a Prime piece Josh has up that Giuliani, Trump, and Barr are conspiring to hurt Biden with a Ukraine-oriented investigation of the company his son worked for that was being investigated there by a corrupt prosecutor before he was ousted. If Ukraine opens an investigation and Barr can piggyback on it, Giuliani has promised improved relations with Trump. It’s just appalling. He has to go.

I’d politely disagree. For me, 2020 is *all * about fighting back against a lawless president who is, at at a minimum, a Russian patsy.

I want someone who is loud and proud about fighting that.

If we get a soft-spoken person talking economic opportunity and esoteric shit like that, we will lose.

And presidential campaigns are big, multipart things. There’s no reason you can’t also talk about kitchen-table stuff like health care, jobs, the environment, things that would matter independently of Trump. All the pieces matter, as Detective Freamon would say. But Trump and Barr amounts to a critical worsening of the corruption. You can’t have a corrupt justice system, it’s not a thing nations can survive.

I’m just afraid that it would turn into some finger-pointing about which candidate didn’t call out Barr quickly enough. I’m not in favor of infighting.

Trump is a modern-era grifter. He does things like money laundering and tax avoidance on top of the usual fraud, obstruction and emoluments violations. What is interesting is whether Barr has direct knowledge of a Trump felony. It could make him subject to one of the oldest crimes in the US criminal code, misprision of a felony.

Must be the 13/18 angry Democrats ?

If someone doesn’t call him out, then they should be gone. Helps whittle the field down.

Agree fully. This is just one topic amongst many. But needs to be the loudest.

Voters will not reward the timid.

Game on! Let’s take him down. And yes we must be able to walk and chew gum at the same time. We need to be able to hold multiple corrupt people accountable at once and still talk policy and win elections. We have to rise to the occasion as our government is infested with criminals at the highest levels. We will need to purge it over the coming years while advancing a policy agenda. This can’t be either/or. If we get the presidency and pass great laws it will mean little if we can’t clean the embedded rot in the judiciary and throughout the executive branch and we will not hold it long unless we send the message that there are consequences for criminal behavior. Otherwise these criminals will be back in power a few years later when the shininess of liberal ideas fade.

It’s time to take the gloves off and go bare-knuckle against these bastards.

Subpoenas, contempt citations, wins in courts are all fine and necessary.

But with what they’re doing and what they have planned, impeachment inquiries and the House issuing multiple articles of impeachment against Trump and Barr must happen. It’s the best way to show that the Democrats still care about the Constitution and rule of law and that the Republicans simply don’t. And someone needs to introduce legislation to get rid of that stupid DOJ guidance about not indicting a sitting president.

Billy Barr should be subpoenaed and impeached. I hope that Nadler and others realize that they are dealing with a lawless motherfucker. Don’t dick around this this bastard by giving him extra time or whatever: bring the law to bear on him – or don’t and thereby imply that we have become a banana republic.

Barr has already missed the subpoena deadline for the unredacted report. When he doesn’t show today, initiate contempt.

Dems are finally starting to use the right words for Trump, not just “corrupt,” but “unpatriotic,” which both goes to the heart of what the Mueller report exposes and strikes him where he is perceived to be strong.

Dem candidates should say what they want about Trump and let the voters decide. They should not criticize each other’s statements about Trump, as he will use any wedge he can find.

Sen. Harris VERY nicely acquitted herself at that hearing. She had clearly done her prep work well, and it showed on Barr’s sweaty face. She took her opportunity on the national stage and crushed it. Sen. Booker could barely hide his admiration.

The debates are upcoming— I look forward to seeing how she will handle questions of national security (an area where she is lacking some expertise and experience, in my view). If this hearing is a preview, she’ll have a star turn next month.

This article isn’t surprising but this is. Fox news telling the truth.

We need to be careful not to overreach. We need articles that are hard to argue with their seriousness and evidence stacks up nicely behind. Keep it simple enough for the public to understand and clear enough no reasonable person can argue it and dare Republicans to vote against it. The public needs to see them for what they are. Many will support their “team” no matter what, but if we can peel off a few percent of more reasonable and rational thinkers who love country more than party, we win and possibly win big. Keep it about the Constitution and rule of law and less about the vileness of a specific person and it will be harder to argue against and harder to dismiss as partisan wrangling.

I was an editor at a publication about lawyers years ago and in every profile without exception the hotshot lawyers all said if they’d done well it was because they prepare obsessively. And that’s the thing with her, she comes prepared. She hit him with a gut-punch and just kept hammering him, and it was like a knockout where they don’t bother to finish the count because the poor sap’s obviously unconscious and won’t be getting up real soon. As we see today she’d somehow found out the worst thing he’s done and he did not repeat not want to talk about it. There are people in this world who are born predators and she’s one. Warren’s a brawler and I like that, but I like the ones who go straight for the kill even better.

I thought Coons did well also. I have the impression that he forced Barr into a clear cut perjury. Whether the underlying facts can be revealed is unclear.

Harris also has that intangible “It” factor — I cannot explain it. She comes on the TV screen and there is something about her that compels you to drop what you’re doing and watch. Obama had that too.
