Despite the horror of this crime, Sweden has one of the world’s lowest homicide rates per 100,000 of any Western advanced nation. The population of Sweeden is about 9,750,000. The number of murders per year is somewhere under 70 (68 per 100,000in a recent year). Sweeden is about 1/ 31st of the population of the USA. The murder rate in Sweden is .7 per 100, 000. These are raw statistics of murders, (not including suicides), and murders by any weapon or means, not simply guns. As in most nations, the most abundant method of murder or suicide in Sweden is the same as in the USA, a gun. Few murders happen with knives or drugs.
Only duly licensed gun owners can carry a weapon in Sweden, not everybody, mostly former and present military and law enforcement. There are no gun manufacturers in Sweden, and all weapons are imported from other nations, including the USA.
In short, the murder rate in Sweden is 100 times LOWER than in the USA.
