It used to be that extremist radicals in the US perceived themselves as enemies of whatever administration was in power (think the Weather Underground, etc., in the 1960s, or the Timothy McVeigh militia types in the 1990s). What’s scary now is that the most dangerous and extreme elements of our society see themselves as aligned with the administration against just about everyone else. This is new territory for us, I think.
