Common sense told me that this resolution should get into the 55-60 vote level and it got to the higher end of the range (no thanks to Tillis who might as well not run for re-election now. He’s pissed off everyone). This is a good thing because it forces Trump to go through the constitutional process and exercise a veto. It also adds a lot to the Congressional record which will be used in the litigation to stop it. Given the conservative divide here, it’s unlikely the courts are going to upend Article 1 when there is so little at stake. Trump has lost all legislative power in just 2 months since Nancy took over the House.
Baby steps
Wow, I thought it would be 4 at most. I am pleasantly surprised for once.
Whatever causes trump indigestion.
Edit
It would be really really nice if those 12 seats went democrat cuz of trump whining (which he has threatened to do).
Poor Donnie, he needs to come up with 12 nasty names. Its gonna be a tweetorama Night.
The next time Cruz or Cornyn (or Graham and the rest of the traitors) bring up the Constitution, this vote should be played.
It’s a start. It’s a tiny step in the right direction, but it’s a start. Can’t wait to see his tantrum.
I’ll help him out…
Alexander Blunt Collins Lee Moran Murkowski Paul Portman Romney Rubio Toomey Wicker
That’s 12 Republican Senators whom Trump is going to put on his shit list and purposefully alienate - which will eventually come back to bite him on the ass.
This vote will have an impact in any court case. It can’t be said that Congress rolled over.
Yep.
Donnie two scoops better watch his back.
Making enemies with his earners and babbos might not work out well.
He doesn’t see a future, and he doesn’t see possible ramifications of any action. There is only right now, and whether he should hit back or whether he can get more praise or other benefits out of someone else.
Twelve is more than half of 20. Just saying.
Very very good news.
It’s like you read my mind.
Note to those wondering what we’re obliquely referring to: Senate votes that require two-thirds ((cough) impeachment (cough)).
The resolution is purely a show vote: Trump has already promised to veto it, and his attempts to seize money Congress approved for military construction for his pet project is already tied up in court.
It may be a show vote, but feral Trumpers will be watching it with trepidation. If the Senate gets close enough to the number of votes needed to override a veto, that is also the number of votes needed to convict on articles of impeachment. There is a limit to the number of Senators that Trump can afford to piss off.
Let the savage internecine tweet warfare begin. And while he’s occupied with that, Speaker Pelosi can continue to persevere.
Anything that pisses off President Stupid is very good news.
