One blurb I read said it was legally purchased recently. Something else I saw said there were more guns where he lived.
Were there warnings as there usually are?
Sadly this is becoming more common as opposed to uncommon. In my city of Kirkwood we had a shooting in City Hall during a city council meeting on Feb. 7, 2008. It changes a community, it changes the way we live in our community, and I donât know how we fix this.
And the facetious comments of âwhere were the good guys with a gunâ donât apply here. The Kirkwood Police Department is 15 yards across the parking lot from the City Hall.
Iâm sure the usual âthoughts and prayersâ will come in from the assholes that could actually do something about this gun violence.
I never understand why a good guy would bear a gun everywhere. Itâs ridiculous.
We have them. Theyâre called Police Officers, wear uniforms and undergo specialized training.
My bad, didnât think of that. But I always find it strange to imagine people going to church, school, etc. with their guns, as rethugs recommend. How they could say that with a straight face is beyond me.
Probably because itâs mixing up the very rural areas, where things are different, with urban and suburban areas. Back up in Alaska, it was quite common to see people around with guns. But then, many of them live way in the outback, miles from other people, so theyâre out on their own mostly, just coming into town for things like church or shopping.
Never makes sense when youâre in less rural areas, no arguments for it.
The NRA has remade this country in the image of their own scare tactic stories.
ââŚquietly stood by or actively helped Hitler do his worstâŚâ
Not too many years ago I would have thought this hyperbole. Iâve subsequently learned that thereâs a segment of any populace that will welcome a âman on a white horseâ, a guy who will âtake careâ of those they despise. Hitler and Mussolini are just the two major examples of the last century. I recall hearing adults say, âMussolini did a lot of goodâ. These migrant âdetention centersâ are just relatively benign concentration camps, a term coined in the Boer Wars.
We nearly had Huey Long here. He inspired âIt Canât Happen Hereâ by Sinclair Lewis â still in print.
Not too many years ago it would have been meant as hyperbole.
Kids dying in cages met with a reaction that we need to do even more to make things miserable to deter othersâŚ
Hear, hear.
Disgruntled. He wasnât âdisgruntledâ. He was mentally ill, denied the healthcare he needed and provided with guns as the best method to solve his problems, courtesy of the GOP.
Theyâre all city government employees. The shooter was an engineer and the victims all seem seem to be public works and utilities folks. Theyâd interact with the police less than other departments, but some, certainly, if only because theyâd need traffic control now and then. Iâd guess as employees in different departments of one bigger organization many would at least be acquainted. Iâm sure it was nightmarish. One other thing to point out: The shooter had extended magazines and it took four cops using up all their own ammo to stop him. The state and national government should explain to every family member why those high-capacity magazines are essential to our âfreedom.â
What we know is that there are too damn many guns in the hands of too damn many people who should never be allowed to own or handle a firearm of any kind.
Another mass manifestation of freedom, keep it up America!
An there is this asshole with his panties in a wad, explaining that after his son was killed in gun violence, that when told that he could not speak about gun control because he didnât knew about gun, he became a gun nut himself and carrying 24/7 and he has reached the conclusion that gun control does not work because in most cases gun ownership doesnât have nothing to with gun violence.
Maybe we need a national campaign to get more people gruntled.
Virginia has local elections this Nov. Hopefully this horrible deed will have some positive inpactâŚ
In his arsenal was a .45-caliber semiautomatic handgun with an attached sound suppressor and extended magazines, Cervera said. Craddock âfired indiscriminatelyâ after entering the building,â the chief said.
I donât think sound suppressors are legal. I think that they merit enhancements under the US Sentencing Guidelines. I suspect extended magazines are not legal either. But do not know for a fact.
