Discussion: 11 Dead In 'Terrorist Attack' On Satirical Newspaper In Paris

Discussion for article #231708

Tomorrow the paper should run another article depicting Mohammed in whatever derogatory way they want. Iā€™m sick and tired of these extremist Muslims.

This comment is on two articles.

Why is the Paris attack a ā€œterrorist attackā€ and the NAACP attack a terrorist attack.

No bigger point, just wondering about the use of the quotation marks.

If youā€™re going to put quotes around ā€œterrorist attackā€ in this instance, you might as well put quotes around ā€œsatirical newspaperā€. Or, even ā€œParisā€ for that matter.
Anytime we think about restricting peopleā€™s rights to express themselves, even in ways that offend some people, keep in mind that is precisely what the terrorists want.

Good grief. =(

Good pointā€“poor editing. The president of France is calling the Paris shooting terrorism, while the NAACP article suggests itā€™s not even clear whether the NAACP office was the target.

Actually I think itā€™s not objectionable. The Paris attack is a ā€œterrorist attackā€ because this is quoting the words of Hollande. So these arenā€™t scare quotes, suggesting something dubious about the designation, but actually a way of making the description more objective (since itā€™s not just the opinion of the writer of the article).

Well, thanks to the NRA making sure that even people on the terrorist watch list can purchase as many assault rifles as Saudi Arabia can afford, expect them in a shopping center near you.

And after the next attack by some Christo-fascist snot-gobbler, letā€™s depict Jesus in the same derogatory manner, because thatā€™ll teach 'em a lesson too. Damn, Iā€™d settle for just calling them a terrorist, which the media only does when itā€™s a Muslim.

Any time you slaughter people who are in the business of freedom of expression, itā€™s a terrorist attack. I donā€™t care what the ideology or ethnic background of the murderers is.

I must question the faith of anybody who feels like they have to kill people who make fun of their religion. They obviously are faithless.

I eagerly await the victim-blaming by Fox. I mean, they were askinā€™ for it, amirite?

Every magazine and every newspaper on this planet whose publishers believe in freedom of expression should now publish Charlie Hebdoā€™s cover with Mohammed on their front pages. Hundreds of thousands of publications all at once. Millions of covers printed and distributed worldwide, all in solidarity with the victims in Paris so that ā€˜we the peopleā€™ do not become victims. Perhaps they should show the prophet of ā€œloveā€ murdering the neighboring tribesmen of his time because they would not buy his version of religion and ā€œloveā€. Show him with the young girls he captured for his pleasures. Show him as the real creature he actually was. Show him fabricating his book for the sole purpose of achieving and consolidating power.

FOX will find some way to link it to Behghazi and blame President Obama. And they will undoubtedly later have on a spokesman for the NRA to explain how more and more guns would have kept this from happening.

Goddamned Muslim terrorists, resorting to violence against those believing differently than them. Thankfully this nation, the one God Himself fashioned in his own image, has better instincts and behavior than these deplorable heathens.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) ā€” Authorities are looking for a man who may have information about a homemade explosive that someone set off near the Colorado Springs chapter of the NAACP. FBI spokeswoman Amy Sanders said investigators were looking for a balding white man in his 40s who may be driving a dirty pickup truck. It could have an open tailgate or a missing or covered license plate.

It took courage to do what those magazine staffers did. They knew the risks and went ahead anyway. I wish I could get that message to their loved ones, but right hereā€™s a place to start.

The target could have been the barbershop next door. A bad haircut can really piss a guy off.

Deuteronomy 13:13-18-New Living Translation (NLT)

13 that scoundrels among you are leading their fellow citizens astray by saying, ā€˜Let us go worship other godsā€™ā€”gods you have not known before. 14 In such cases, you must examine the facts carefully. If you find that the report is true and such a detestable act has been committed among you, 15 you must attack that town and completely destroy[a] all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock. 16 Then you must pile all the plunder in the middle of the open square and burn it. Burn the entire town as a burnt offering to the Lord your God. That town must remain a ruin forever; it may never be rebuilt. 17 Keep none of the plunder that has been set apart for destruction. Then the Lord will turn from his fierce anger and be merciful to you. He will have compassion on you and make you a large nation, just as he swore to your ancestors.

Gun laws are pretty liberal in France. Not unlike our own in many respects. Though their death by gun rate is lower 3 per 100,000 vs. 10 per 100,000 in the USA. Homicide rate about 3 per 100K for us vs. 0.2 per 100K for France. Says a lot about US culture vs. Old Europe. Gimmie my gun and freedom fries.

But that would mean missing out on an opportunity to do a month-long Fear Fest about the threat of Islam.
I donā€™t think itā€™s blaming the victims to ask where the hell were the security measures on the part of the French police and the magazine owners?
This has been coming for years and nobody thought that 24 hour high-level protection might be a good idea especially after the office was bombed a year and a half ago?
Iā€™m as pro free speech as they come, but if youā€™re going to poke a bear you really should have a plan when it rounds on you.
