When Speaker of the House Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) ripped up a copy of President Trump’s speech following the 2020 State of the Union, Trump had a response.
“If the government becomes a law breaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites everyman to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy.”
U.S. Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis
Trump might think that was just fine but he was a predator in a civil society and likely too fat and stupid to survive the world he and his followers imagine they desire.
McLenahan argued that Trump’s conduct was so brazen in this instance that a failure to prosecute would be damaging to the laws, allowing future presidents to see the laws as optional.
In THIS instance? That is the summation of his entire presidency…sadly
Trump, with his moneyed criminal mentality, learned long ago that he could brazen through just about anything, regardless how egregious, and settle out of court when that failed. This time, he may have gone a bit too far.
The folks who are after him these days don’t look like the “settle-out-of-court” kind. As I’ve noted in past, as a former President, Trump no longer has the luxury that he had as a corrupt businessman of scurrying under a rock and waiting for the law to lose interest.
Of course he flushed more than records … and many people are saying that they were the bestest smelling turds ever flushed in the history of the White House.
So…Donnie just admitted that he actually knew it was against the law to destroy documents…never mind that he was too damn stupid to tell the difference e between Pelosi’s tearing up a copy of his speech and his destroying and flushing original documents that he obviously knew were incriminating.
Geez…he makes prosecuting him something of a slam dunk, doesn’t he?
DFG applied that same razor-sharp mental prowess to everything he did. We should consider ourselves lucky to have survived his pathetic excuse for a presidency.
The premise of the article is that this is another norm in jeopardy. And all I can say is God forbid we have another president so contemptuous of governing norms, of the law, of anything that enables people to live together in productive harmony. The GOP has embraced his nihilism with a sickening enthusiasm and we’re a long way from out of the woods. The reality-based community seems to be flexing its muscles now that he’s out of office, but stay tuned, sports fans, this one’s a long way from over.
