Originally published at: DHS Warns Every Level Of Election Admin Could Be Targeted By Domestic Extremists Next Month
The Department of Homeland Security is warning that domestic violent extremists, many of whom will be motivated by political policy and ideological grievances, pose the most “significant physical threat” to the election system and those who will work to administer it next month. In its annual Homeland Threat Assessment released Tuesday, DHS said both domestic…
Does the report suggest actions that should be taken? I’m just through the executive summary and don’t see suggestions of any thus far.
ETA: the section on DVE’s and the election does not mention any either so I assume it is expected the threat list will attract the eyes of relevant agencies who then craft operational responses. Don’t know enough about how this works to speculate how tasks are allocated or how this is coordinated.
And, Donald J. Trump is the ringleader of the domestic extremists. Let’s just tell the damned truth.
But don’t call them terrorists. That’s a violent extremist of a different color
If DHS has intell to the effect that another Jan 6 is being planned, then I’ve got to hope to hell they have shared this info with every relevant law enforcement agency such that any such act will be stillborn.
This type of political violence only exists when major political parties allow it. Trump has given permission to his followers to be terrorists. The immediate solution to the problem is is that Trump must lose, Trump must be held accountable for his previous crimes, and Trump absolutely must lose his influence over the Republican party.
When Trump is gone, that won’t be the cure, however. I certainly am old enough to remember the Oklahoma City federal building. Violence from right-wing extremist in America will not go away. We need to begin the process of disarming the incredibly armed, and incredibly stupid, American civilian population.
Sorry to be a nitpicker, but the admirable phrase “altar of his grievances” is changed when the word is spelled “alter”.
It’s not the DHS’s job, perhaps, to point out that 95% of these domestic threats originate with Republicans. And that the Republican party is officially pushing this violent reaction and spreading lies. But it would be nice if somebody in authority or with a national media platform did.
since anti-government extremists found a prophet in Donald Trump
I think that’s “since they found a profit in Trump.” Those guys aren’t doing this stuff out of the goodness of their hearts.
All in anodyne language that gives no indication of just which groups are to be worried about, nor what ideology they might espouse.
So golly, I can’t figure out who they’re talking about.
If election administration process and personnel are getting threats I doubt that DHS will put in writing that the public can see ways to protect the operation and personnel. Wouldn’t that be giving the game away?
So, when did MAGA become DVE?
They absolutely are Domestic Violent Extremists, but why not fucking call them by their name whenther are no other DVEs?

Yes, an alert that “alter” should be altered to “altar”.
LOL
How about “is being” rather than “could be.”
As I’m reading this, I’m reminded of Laurence W Britt’s Op-Ed from Free Inquiry titled “Fascism, Anyone?”. It’s worth a read, but here are his points with my comments on our current sad state of affairs.
-
Powerful and continuing expressions of nationalism: MAGA, anyone? How about a little Christian Nationalism or Dominionism?
-
Disdain for the importance of human rights: Mass deportations, separating children of migrants from their parents at the border?
-
Identification of enemies/scape-goats as a unifying cause: “…and I assume some of them are good people.” “…they are eating the dogs and cats.” (Paraphrasing Shillbilly Vance) If I have to make shit up to get the media to cover it, I will,
-
Supremacy of the military and avid militarism: Both parties are guilty of this.
-
Rampant sexism: Menstrual cycle monitoring. You can have an abortion as long as you don’t know you’re pregnant.
-
A controlled mass media: See my paraphrase of the Shillbilly, above. Or consider Trump and his campaign working the moderators at every debate. Or the media’s compliant sane-washing of Trump’s gibberish.
-
Obsession with national security: Both parties are pretty guilty of this.
-
Religion and the ruling elite tied together: National Prayer Breakfast. SCotUS’s clear bias in favor of evangelical Christian positions?
-
Power of corporations protected: See almost any SCotUS decision of the past fifteen years.
-
Power of labor suppressed or eliminated: This is a GOP effort that goes back more than a century, and it’s only gotten worse.
-
Disdain and suppression of intellectuals and the arts: “I hate Taylor Swift”–DJ Trump. The repeated GOP assaults on our universities. Look at Ben Sasse’s ‘work’ as President of the University of Florida, or Gov. Rhonda Stains’ completely legal purge and reconstruction of New College in Florida. How about Wisconsin killing off faculty tenure in the UW system? The Shillbilly’s proposal to tax university endowments? (That’s not necessarily an entirely awful idea if the money was earmarked to improve higher ed nationally, but that ain’t what the Shillbilly is suggesting.)
-
Obsession with crime and punishment: Executing an innocent man is no issue to the GOP.
-
Rampant cronyism and corruption: Christ almighty, where do you even start with this? Maybe the Citizens United SCotUS decision? Rubles flowing into the GOP using the NRA as a Ruble Laundromat, maybe? How about the SCotUS ruling that Trump is really a King rather than a President charged to see that the laws are faithfully executed. Just for completeness sake, Eric Adams and Turkey? Sen. Menendez and his Egyptian pals? DJ Trumplethinskin and his Egyptian/Russian/Saudi etc. buddies?
-
Fraudulent elections: Trump’s busy beating this drum, but we haven’t reached this point. Yet.
No mention of “Republicans” or “conservatives” in the warning.
It’s not Democrats who have already harangued and threatened election workers, nor is it Democrats who are packing heat near and around polling areas.
To me, this is yet another instance of refusing to spotlight who’s causing the chaos - and thus, giving Republicans yet another pass.
