DeWine Tests Negative For COVID-19 In Second Round Of Testing | Talking Points Memo

After announcing that he had tested positive for coronavirus earlier on Thursday afternoon, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine’s office said that the governor received a negative result from a second more sensitive test for the virus later that night.

Someone needs to come up with a faster test that is accurate. A couple of weeks ago, there was a panic here in Vermont when 70 people tested positive one weekend (all antigen tests.) When the PCR tests came back, only two people tested positive. A lot of stress for nothing.

He avoided having to see Toadglans in the flesh flab and doesn’t have the disease.
Sounds like a win-win.

DeWine may be misinterpreting the results. To be expected, since he is, after all, a Republican unskilled in the ways of science.

My daughter tested positive a couple of weeks ago. A 2nd test, however, showed only genetic fragments of the virus remaining, which means, in effect, that she fought it off.

I had to get tested, too, which came back negative. Those nasal swabs are not pleasant!

So this proves that it will be absolutely safe to send kids back to school! Everyone can get tested as many times as they want to get the desired results. Thanks, Donnie!

Tell me about it. I had a test done back in early May. The results came back negative less than 24 hours later. I was very surprised to get them so quickly (i’d heard the usual stories about turnaround time).

It was like 3 days for me, but I was glad it was that quick, too.

C’mon…I said it here yesterday. DeWine LIED about his test so he had an excuse NOT to meet up with Trump since Donnie was already in the air. When Trump was out of Ohio all of a sudden ‘the test was wrong’. Sorry. Not buying it.

Must be one of those new Republican tests.

False negative and positive results can arise with almost any test.

They should probably retest in a couple of days.

So,we can’t even get this right when the highest ranking officials in government are involved…people prioritized to get the best and most effective treatment…now, let’s see what transpires when millions of school children face similar challenges without the resources and preferential status.

The day after Biden takes office, an inaccurate test will be grounds for impeachment.

That is true. The rapid test needs to be biased towards positivity, because the greater harm is done by a false negative, where you could wander around infecting people, whereas a false positive would mean quarantining until the result is confirmed or refuted by a second test. If that comes back negative, you get on with your life. A similar thing happens with home pregnancy tests, which are very good, but should always be confirmed if positive by a doctor. DeWine did the right thing here and has generally behaved well compared to most in his party.

Pet peeve, PCR tests are more sensitive but not more specific. A more SENSITIVE test means that it is less likely to be a false negative. A more SPECIFIC test means that it is less likely to be a false positive. Most of the rapid antigen tests are very specific but not sensitive. A back up negative test is not reassuring in this instance. If he were my patient, I would tell him that he has covid and to isolate for at least 10 days and fever-free with improving symptoms.

Is it possible this was all staged just so DeWine would have an excuse to avoid meeting with Trump? I have the impression Dewine isn’t a big fan of Trump’s so I could see him doing this.

“Sorry, I tested positive“ is the new “I have to wash my hair”

Wait until they try to test the animals once they leave Sturgis, South Dakota, after their annual, greasy bacchanal.

They’re be drinking beer through their noses and eating the swabs.

And you wouldn’t want female nurses anywhere near them.

I said the same thing yesterday that it was a ploy to avoid Donnie Boy. And DeWine also gets to complaint about testing and its efficacy. A win-win indeed!
