DeWine Comes To State Health Director’s Defense Amid Attacks

Honestly, I’m so sick of these asshats that if I was diagnosed with the virus I’d sorely be tempted to go to one of their protests and just walk around while breathing. The only two things stopping me is that, first, I’m not an amoral selfish asshole like them, and, second, the odds are that someone who is asymptomatic was already walking among them and spread it around.

We’ll see in a few weeks if they are singing a different tune as them and their friends and families get sick and die off due to the virus. If they are intellectually honest, they will proclaim that the life of their loved one was worth it to keep the economy going…I doubt that will be the reaction though.

While Trump is sans ideology and calling him Fascist are ill-aimed, it’s more and more clear that he is - not consciously since he’s purely about himself - opening the door to the real deal, actual proto-fascists.

The madness of violent threats about masks etc is just extraorindary.

Well, Orange County California reported 5 COVID-related deaths today and Saturday (but none on Sunday). Before Saturday, the highest daily death count was 3. There have been protests in the county re: the Governor’s re-closing of the beaches.

He’s not my kind of politics, but he’s done an excellent job here in Ohio. Better than damn near any other governor.

This needs to be SHOUTED out. Is Upton Sinclair not required reading these day?

So, which Democratic candidate wants to buy a stake in Pacifica Radio Network?

And in MI on Friday a security guard was murdered because he asked a shopper to wear a face mask.

Could you provide an example of the oppression you’re referring to, please?
What would it take? Curious minds want to know.

I stopped and talked to a woman who lives nearby, and the conversation, like it always does now, began with us asking each other how we were doing. I don’t know her very well, she has beautiful gardens, and we have talked about that before this. It got a little crazy after that.

I learned that Bill Gates and Fauci are going to make money because Gates has the “patent” for the vaccine (jaw drop), and Gates also wants to decrease the population, so he doesn’t care about the death toll. She will never get the vaccine.

I immediately said that I would definitely get one, because we’re not safe until we have it. I was angry and wondered where in hell she was hearing this crap, but I stayed calm. I mentioned the news about 3,000 deaths per day, and I told her about the NYT’s article. Noticed the shades go down just a bit in her eyes.

She did agree that we need to wear masks and stay at home. She’s 70, divorced, and has no relationship with two daughters who live nearby. Hasn’t seen one in 4-5 years.
I wonder if politics is an issue. She grew up in Orange County, but has lived here for 14 years. I think she probably voted for Trump. She blamed Fauci for the misinformation. I said Trump was the one who was responsible for that. She admitted that he did say some things “he shouldn’t have said.”

It’s just amazing that there is such a horrible disconnect here. Yikes.

In light of this, and other stories, I just love watching all the soft-focus corporate ads that purr, “we’re all in this together”. I ain’t in anything together with these cos-play commandos.

It’s the Trumpian way.

This article needs the word “Ohio” somewhere in the title or the first few lines. Not everyone is a political junkie who instantly recognizes who DeWine might be (e.g. me).

Truly! I’m genuinely shocked that something as simple as wearing a freaking mask is too big of an ask for the Freedumb! crowd. One thing I hope is happening in this country is that white people who aren’t insane are beginning to see the intensity and destruction caused by white privilege. You can’t even ask people to do very basic stuff to protect others without a total meltdown. Requiring simple protections in order to avoid killing people is seen as oppression and tyranny yet these are the same people who cheer on killer cops when they murder an unarmed POC. Honestly, racism and the entitlement of the majority in this country is a threat even bigger than Covid.

…except Beshear. I cannot believe he’s kept this state full of fat, sick, drinking, smoking, people who are riddled with respiratory issues to less than 5,000 cases so far.

I’ve read a couple of different stories about this incident, none up to the minute, but one reported that the security guard asked a woman to wear a mask, so after abusing him verbally she left and returned (reportedly with her father husband) who proceeded to shoot the guard in the head.

(H/T to @ljb860 for the correction)

The victim leaves behind eight children, his wife and his mother.

FYI, there’s a GoFundMe page for the guard’s family here:

“Wear face masks because it might keep people alive” is exactly what the… Nazis ordered?

I don’t understand our enemies in this fight. It’s real simple. Hairstyles are not essential. Literally anything ending in “style” is not essential. Just keep calm and do your part for your fellow Americans. Why is that beyond these dolts? Why are they so angry and destructive?

I am shocked and saddened to hear about the 43-year-old Flint, MI security guard, father of eight, who was shot and killed because he told someone a mask had to be worn.

I mean, what the eff is the matter with people?
