Every Democrat running for office, whether federal, state, or local, needs to hold the Republican Party’s feet to the fire (I wish…) and have ads that show Republican supporters and signatories’ names on the 2023 Debt Limit Extortion agreement. Highlight the “no cuts” clauses, then play the audio. There are at least a few good ones: that oaf who bellowed “YOU LIE!” at President Obama, or “Empty” Greene shrieking “LIAR!!”. Extra points for video of her hanging over the rail in her white fur collared, trailer trash bathrobe.
the entitlement programs some of the nation’s most vulnerable depend on.
The most vulnerable, as in most people who are not in the top quintile.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) echoed the sentiment, saying initiatives to sunset Social Security and Medicare are not a “Republican plan.”
McConnell, like most old guard Republicans, prefers the incremental death by a thousand cuts approach rather than traumatic amputation.
But they gave their word–
These are the sort of things that could make me a cynic.
So, yet another scam like Part C/Medicare “Advantage” (which is neither): let’s siphon more money from people’s pockets into highly profitable administrative overhead sold by insurance carriers.
To a Republican, the only thing better than robbing the Treasury on behalf of the wealthy would be to permanently enshrine profiteering in law.
Give a robber a mask and he can rob banks for a day. Give him a Republican majority and the bank will rob itself for a lifetime.
Rethugliklans will giddily let 98% of Americans starve and die. For the rest of the world, they will giddily fund the biggest death machine in human history.
Priorities.
Safety nets for the non-rich are the item that the treason scumbag party will never, as in not ever, stop trying to overturn. Like Roe/Wade they don’t even understand the implications, nor do they care. It’s important to remember that what they say or agree to in this minute means absolutely nothing. Biden knows this, and I’m sure he knows that it wouldn’t take long for them to pretend what they said in the last minute doesn’t exist. What’s amusing is that they don’t seem to know that he knows, so the self-owns continue.
Let’s face it, it’s in the interest of the wealthy/corporate class to keep all the workers bees working until they’re dead, and to reduce their healthcare support to hasten that outcome. They don’t like ‘sponges’, you know. If someone can no longer work because of age, well, that’s their problem. Their death in penury is the perfect solution.
There should really be a minimum-years-of-service option. Anyone who’s worked 40 years and their spouse of 30 years or longer, should be eligible for SS and MC benefits regardless of their age.
There is an understanding of what the modern GOP is all about…That is why messaging is so important to them.
It is what they do: pure tribalism.
I might also add: a vast miscalculation of one’s socioeconomic status.
GOP Political Strategy:
Why suffer mere electoral loss from Dobbs…
When you can suffer electoral catastrophe from campaigning to gut Social Security and Medicare?
(Forget the “Year of the Dragon” – 2024 is gonna be the “Year of the FAFO”!)
I don’t dispute your take, but the crazy part is that the corporate class specifically is wrong.
Every year, a coalition of Canadian car manufacturers send their government a letter describing how publicly funded healthcare is critical to helping them stay competitive in the global marketplace.
American organizations lose massive profits and productivity every year because of sickness and premature death among their workers. But, in America, corporations are tools of wealthy private individuals, and those wealthy people prioritize their own private tax gripes over the sustainability of their profit-centers. It is just one or two steps removed from embezzlement.
Most of the laws enacted by and since the New Deal by Dems exist to prevent the country from being a dystopian hellscape. The dumbasses actually believe that drowning the government in the bathtub will lead to something good because they’ve been drinking this bath water for so long. We’re now seeing actual manifestations of that dystopian hellscape emerge, e.g. OB/GYNs, immigrant labor and jobs leaving red states, inability to insure homes, etc. It’s terrible for all the people in those areas who aren’t MAGAt fools who now are faced with some hard choices because their “neighbors” put such a high priority on owning the libs.
Possible. Remember COVID.
…in the 10 states with the lowest vaccination rates…there was an average of 153 COVID-19-related deaths per 100,000 residents…during the same time period, the 10 states and jurisdictions with the highest vaccination rates, which all voted for Biden, there was an average of about 82.2 related deaths per 100,000 residents.
Maybe if more than Romney voted to convict? Just blue skyin’…
The thing that stands out to me is that the left doesn't know how to end Trump and won't let those on the right who want to end him have a go because the left doesn't trust them either. So they'll rely on a Will Hurd or a Liz Cheney, whose attacks only help Trump within the GOP.

The GOP is a suicide cult. Which would be fine by me, except that rich crooks and sociopathic wealth hoarders have led that cult into the adjacent territory of murder-suicide pacts.
The campaign ads write themselves.
“The 167-page document also proposes turning Medicare into a “premium support” system that would subsidize private insurance options that compete with traditional Medicare”…
Right. Because the private insurance industry has done such a bang up job of supplying affordable health care, we can confidently put it in their hands now.
(considers Day Drinking)
Of course they are. If you are surprised then you haven;t followed the GQP for the last 50 years.
