Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) on Tuesday insisted that he has no plans to reinstate coronavirus-related restrictions or close businesses despite a recent surge of COVID-19 cases in his state.

DeSantis hides info and lies in order to provide short-term political capital to push things open and align with Trump’s agenda. Given his level of recklessness, DeSantis could end up boosting FL’s case count into the 10k-20k per day range (subject to testing availability which he will do his best to limit). FL is in a dangerous place right now given its demographics.

I heard a doctor say that a 35 year old with certain pre-existing conditions is at the same risk as a healthy 75 year old. Plenty of younger people have gotten very sick and the idea of a young person with scarred lungs or a weakened heart that will be with them for the rest of their lives is not a pleasant one.Death isn’t the only bad outcome of this disease.
