DeSantis-Appointed Secretary of State Reportedly Worked Closely With Election Denial Activists

This past May, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis appointed state Representative Cord Byrd to serve as Florida’s Secretary of State. Prior to his appointment, Byrd spent six years — two as vice chair — on the state legislature’s Public Integrity and Elections Committee, and self-described as a local “Florida gun lawyer.”

This thing, The Big Lie, is never going away unless and until Donald J. Trump himself says it was all a big lie. A hoax, to use his favourite term.

But that will never happen. He would never knowingly let himself be heard to say that in public. The only way would be if he said it in private and there was a recording. He has come close, but we’re not there, yet.

The only other option is to have a level of transparency in the election process and results tabulations that would leave no doubts about the election’s integrity.

So let there be mucho oversight, but let the oversight be transparent, too.

Slightly OT, but very heartwarming:

My favorite part was where he bragged in writing about how they obstructed the official proceeding. FAFO, asshole.

(He’ll likely get 3-5 years.)

Completely OT: saw this thread regarding what looks like the sabotage of 2 Nord Stream lines. It’s very good. If you go, you’ll see two threads added along the way.

Do you think maybe the unlimited money given to right wing causes has anything to do with why these people can be out there, full time, working to destroy our democracy?

All of this nonsense is the fruit of Citz U. Right wing propaganda is an industry in its own right.

The dollar remains undefeated.

And I thought my state had some wackos.

Now, tell me he’s a Christian Nationalist Evangelical or Opus Dei.

An RC from anywhere in the world gets to the US and wonders how all the Catholics became Protestants. Even Boston they act like Glasgow Proddies.

Opus Dei, which I believe is Latin for Catholics that don’t drink. Is there anything more abominable in the world than dry Papist?!

Good Gawd.

Well, in their schools, students are taught to abstain from sex, drugs and alcohol, but like Texas Baptists, they talk dry, but likely drink a lot.

The group America’s Frontline Doctors are also advisors to governor DeSantis. They’re the astroturf organization who push crank conspiracy theories and quack remedies for COVID like ivermectin.

Did I miss the part of the article where it’s mentioned just how DeSantis had this slot open to fill via appointment? Hard to keep up with all the Florida shit these days.

Interesting how Trump’s described “witch hunt” and “hoax investigation” keeps producing results that will end up with many, many people indicted and sentenced to federal prison.

From the article:

“Then, she says, she would: take a cold shower while praying; whip her buttocks privately while reciting a prayer (once a week); attend a Mass in Latin; wear a spiked chain, called a cilice, around her thighs for two hours; vacuum two rooms in her residence; and perhaps meet with her spiritual director.”
Sounds like a combination of Catholic mass and a Saturday night in some bar in the West Village. Yet many of these Opus Dei adherents would vent their spleen over some priest at the Pride parade or the group who dressed as nuns. Yup it’s always projection.

When the fox is sent to guard the henhouse you know a massacre is in the way.

And the American democratic republic is on the menu.
