The Prime Minister of Denmark is a woman. They seem to know better how to get things done. And Trump will, again, call her nasty, just like he did when she wouldn’t hear of selling Greenland to him.

One of the things that I think gets lost in the discussion of testing is the size of a country’s land mass and the size of the population.
And while this sounds nice it still isn’t going to address those people that are asymptomatic.

Trump thought of it first.
Testing everyone who has symptoms is blatantly inadequate when the asymptomatic are among us. You literally have to test everyone, and do so at a frequency that protects all, or you must isolate. To not do this invites another wave of infection.

not quite. while testing everyone in “hot spot” areas is necessary, in isolated areas where there is little or no evidence of an outbreak, random testing of a small portion of the population can be used to establish the prevalence of the virus in the general population.
Once that kind of testing establishes an area is “clear”, even if someone does show up with the virus later, contact tracing/surveillance and mitigation can prevent the spread of the disease.

There is an 400 to 1 old rule for copywriters. By the time you the copywriter are sick of a slogan, campaign or product, the effects of the advertising are just beginning to penetrate public consciousness. I think most of us are sick of discussing testing at this point. It was a failure, a fiasco, it killed tens of thousands of people, blah, blah, blah. Yet talking to our neighbor, it was the first time she even thought about testing. Another information silo from this one.

Finland’s government is currently led by four women, including a 34-year-old prime minister, Sanna Marin. Finland has had less than 100 deaths. If it turns out this “herd immunity” business was illusory, Sweden is going to be sorry.

But it’s even worse than that, First, all tests have an error rate and the COVID-19 virus test has a very high one (maybe 30% false negative, mostly due to variability in the swabs) and even a true negative can be infected at a later date, So you need to test people more than once. If you have a hair cutter who might have up-close interactions with dozens of people in a day, that’s a problem.
This has never really been done with a respiratory virus. HIV is a different matter because it only spreads though activities that one can opt out of. Even Singapore, which did a great job testing and isolating has an outbreak now.

If you interact with the public and return to work I fail to see how anything less than once a week retesting is sufficient. Testing negative today is just about all that it is, you’re negative, today.

I have an acquaintance that survived COVID-19. He had to fight like hell to get tested. Said he had a severe cough, headache, fever and felt like an elephant was sitting on his chest. All the telltale symptoms justifying a test. So, he tests positive. Luckily the infection ran its course without the need of hospitalization. Now he’s just about back to his old self. He wants retested, either to confirm he’s over it, or to confirm the antibodies are in his system. He’s being told essentially “You’re better, consider yourself fortunate, now leave us alone and let us deal with the sick.”
Testing issues are prevalent and widespread. It’s criminal Trump claims otherwise.

It’s funny, because normally US doctors are accused of doing too many tests…
One is the willingness to pay a lot of taxes which come back in the form of school funding, and retirement and old age funding. Oh yeah, also the willingness to drink a lot of Carlsberg.

They sound confident, don’t they. Sort of reminds me of the governor opening the beaches in South Carolina. Everybody who is sick can get a test. That is rich. The disease takes up to 2 weeks to manifest itself and you can spread it while asymptomatic.
Yes, I agree completely! BUT, first you need to really capture the population who is showing symptoms of the disease. And that is NOT how it is working now. It is very restricted to those who fit a very narrow criteria, and to those who fit no criteria at all (politicians.) Once they do all that, we will get a true sense of what % of the population is diagnosed WITH the disease, and what the death rate is for those who have been diagnosed.
Then, the next (retrospective) antibody tests will happen. They really can’t do that now, as the tests are not good. They will have a very good dataset. While, we here in the US, have garbled and incomplete data, supressed data, and “models.” I’d bet you that Denmark will have a whole lot better history to take action on going forward than we do! They are willing to do some reality testing. We (I mean Trump’s America guidelines) are just throwing everything into a “let it ride” mentality.
