Dems To Cite Trump’s G-7 Doral Mess As More Evidence In Their Emoluments Lawsuit

Democrats suing President Donald Trump over alleged emoluments clause violations will bring up Trump’s now-reversed decision to hold next year’s G-7 summit at his resort in Doral, Florida to help bolster their case on Tuesday.

Trump took an oath, in no uncertain terms, to “preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States, so help me God,” and now he is calling part of it phony?? Why could that be anything other than, in addition to his other High Crimes and Misdemeanors, impeachable??

Great! Hit him from as many directions as possible.

“The President may have decided, for now, not to go ahead with his plan to hold the G7 summit at his Doral resort, but the fact that he even thought about it, underscores once again that he has zero regard for the Foreign Emoluments Clause.”

The fact that he thought about it and even suggested it to his Chief of Staff.

I am still snickering that Rome Burning in Man Form had to have carefully lined up his shoe before he shot himself in the foot.

This has got to be the Doofus version of picking up a 7-10 split.

Since he withdrew it (because of the insane Dems, of course), is it now no longer without merit?

@benthere, a classic case of not knowing what he was signing up for. Had he understood even half of it, he never would have run.

If you think about it, it’s pretty amazing that every president before Trump respected the office and the nation as much as they did. There were a few shaky episodes, but even someone as corrupt as Nixon took their duties seriously and at least tried to keep things running properly.

The Republican party was ripe to install someone like Trump, many of their policies show that they have given up on our democracy in the pursuit of power at any price. But, Trump is beyond what they were going for, he’s really turned the party to his ends, and his ends are only about himself. He really doesn’t give a crap about the nation, its standing in the world, or anything outside of keeping control and (at least some of) his family and good friends. It shows how lucky we were not to get someone like this before, corrupt, incompetent, and willing to ignore the duties of the job…and it also shows that we probably need to put limits on the presidency to make sure someone else doesn’t come along and ravage the system again, or worse.

You know, if people have to take a test just to be a citizen and gain the right to get called up for jury duty, shouldn’t presidential candidates have to take a test of basic knowledge of the Constitution? Donnie couldn’t have gotten in even if the test were pass-fail.

Bill Clinton was impeached for lying under oath about marital infidelity. Would Donald Trump be willing to be sworn in and asked did he cheat on all three of his wives?
If he lies then he should be impeached. Of course he would agree to that.

Donald Trump’s first lie as POTUS was on Inauguration Day when he swore he would preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.

What limits would you suggest? (Never mind how for now.)

There’s a scientific integrity bill going through the House now, that will require the executive branch to use science properly, and not allow it to hide or scuttle science projects that don’t conform to the politics. I think that’s a good example of the kind of things that need to be done, where the law forces the executive to stick to the facts. Forcing them to follow the rules on confirmation of candidates (and the Senate to handle them instead of ignoring them), that’s another good one. There are a lot of government reforms that can be done which would make the system more fair for all Americans, that’s really what we need.

Of course, we won’t get it without a reform minded president and Congress, and that won’t be easy to get together (if ever).

So … a statute that requires the Executive to place some sort of premium on scientific integrity?

Not a premium, just respect for the process and results. I don’t have time now to go into how much the current administration has fucked up government science, but it’s a real problem. Republican administrations have been doing this for a while, and we need to get to where the science is treated as it should be, with peer reviewed journal articles the standards for policy making and science programs devoid of political influence or interference.

So was the mainstream media - especially ‘traditional news’ sources.

I am pretty sure Trump thinks the Constitution is unconstitutional. The man’s ignorance is bottomless, but thanks to the wellspring of creative thought among the posters here at TPM, people are coming up with new ways to call him an idiot every day!

At this point, I think there are R’s that would argue it wasn’t Trump’s hand in the air when he took the oath. They would rather prove he wasn’t even there, so consequently, couldn’t have committed any bad acts. I know, I know. But, we are Through the Looking Glass and looking sideways.

Yes, and the effort gathered a lot of momentum under Cheney.

Didn’t that guy like have multiple heart attacks?

Guess prayer works, because he’s still around, and them know-nothing doctors with their science can’t be relied on for nothing.

As everyone knows, to have multiple heart attacks you must have multiple hearts.

And because Cheney is heartless, he can have had at most zero heart attacks.

(Hope this helps.)
