A handful of House Democrats are making it clear that House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) — who previously said he wouldn’t launch an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden without a House vote — went back on his word because he doesn’t have the support of his caucus.
McCarthy seems to be just another in a long line of folks who find themselves in a sticky situation after having metaphorically sold their souls to the devil. Now what?
“There are three main things on the MAGA agenda this week,” Raskin said. “Shutdown the government, impeach the president and then overthrow the speaker.
Just curious, did you recently wake up from a coma (if so, congrats on your recovery)? George W. Bush looking for WMD under his desk…the half-term governor from Alaska doing anything…Madison Cawthorn blabbing about Congressional sex and cocaine parties–the buffoonery seems to be well-established and on-going.
I hope the Biden administration quotes liberally from the Trump admin’s OLC opinion when they tell the House GOP where they can stuff their impeachment inquiry:
There are three main things on the MAGA agenda this week,” Raskin said. “Shutdown the government, impeach the president and then overthrow the speaker.
I think Raskin got the order wrong:
Impeach the President
Overthrow the Speaker
Shutdown the government (which will be automatic by the time they select another speaker, if ever, at least til after the next election)
And who, pray tell, might be able to take over the position as Speaker given the Chaos Caucus’s strangle hold on the process? They have enough power to extort promises from McCarthy, who wants power but isn’t strong enough to get it without selling what he has as a reasonable facsimile of a soul.
What promises did he have to make to get their blessing?
“Members of his own party are saying — conservative members of his own party — are saying that there’s no basis for impeachment here,” Jayapal told TPM
Intentional or not, I’m grooving on Jaypal’s echoing of Trump’s go-to phrase "Many people are saying . . . "
Glad to see my Congressman speaking out without permission from the “squad”. There are also several republican reps. from NY who won close elections and are worried about this vote.
