With the Voting Rights Act gutted by the Supreme Court this week and Republican officials in red states in the South jumping to redraw their maps before the 2028 election cycle — and with some going to extremes to redraw district lines ahead of the upcoming midterms — Democratic leadership is planning new counter moves…
She sells seashells by the seashore. Now she’s a domestic terrorist for aiding enemies of The State.
The GA primaries are on May 19th…do they really want to redistrict? Split the black majority Atlanta area district into several other districts and you get a bunch of competitive districts for a midterm election that is already looking bad.
Speaker Johnson extended the DHS shutdown for over a month for no reason at all.
That goes right along with a war they started for no reason at all, budget and staff cuts made for no reason, the demolishing of the White House for no reason… except we know the reason – don’t talk about sex trafficking.
But were they really seashells? They may well have been incendiary devices or camouflaged munitions or never-before-seen weapons of mass distraction destruction.
And without a complete, in-depth background check conducted by FBI/DHS agents do we really know who “she” is?
This may even need the Office of Special Council. Serious shit, man!!
For years we Dems were told (often rightfully) that we took Black and Hispanic votes for granted. So we lost some enthusiasm. I’m looking forward to the hot takes after this coming election that repubs took Whites for granted and they shifted toward Dems…I mean Dunpy is down among non-college White men!!
Another thing, here in Jersey we should really redistrict. We have a trifecta. Why do we let Tom Kean “marbles for brains” Junior run again and again in a slightly red district? And a couple more repubs. We. Can. Change. This.
One thing is sure after the Alito Supreme Court Decision, a lot of congress critters who thought they were in safe districts are going to be looking for work in November.
I live in Brian Mast’s district in Florida. It is normally a plus 10 Republican District. It is being gerrymandered so his redrawn district will be plus 6. In a wave election year Mast could easily lose. Don’t tell his supporters. .
I’m think so! A Republican plus 5 or 6 is likely a lose for many. If I were repubs in +10 districts I’d be begging not to water mine down. Donald dumpy is down with non-college white men. I see their pissed off scows at the gas station when they are filling up their ford trucks . No more maga bumpers anymore.
And early voting began Monday. It would seem like a total nonstarter if Republicans weren’t crazy in the head.
Stressed environments cause evolution to kick into overdrive. The mollusks have become sentient and are communicating their alliance with the Canuckistani Separatists.
I’m in south Florida for the week visiting family. I briefly looked at the local news where they had a segment about the proposed redirecting maps and how it impacted Broward County. Potentially forcing Wasserman Schultz and Moscowitz into a primary because one of their districts is dismantled. Which creates a conundrum. Wouldn’t this be eliminating a historically Jewish district and be subject to litigation? After all DeSantis wouldn’t have carved up the Dade County district’s represented by Cuban Americans for decades.
Problem solved!!!
Trump administration says its war in Iran has been ‘terminated’ | AP News
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration is arguing that the war in Iran has already ended because of the ceasefire that began in early April, an interpretation that would allow the White House to avoid the need to seek congressional approval.
A senior administration official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the administration’s position, said for purposes of that law, “the hostilities that began on Saturday, Feb. 28 have terminated.” The official said the U.S. military and Iran have not exchanged fire since the two-week ceasefire that began April 7.
and there you go! Run away cult members, run away1
Republicans say they will defer to Trump on Iran war despite arrival of 60-day deadline
The administration has been using the ceasefire to extend the need for Congressional authorization, but the use of the word “terminated” is interesting.
So now if we resume bombing Iran, it’s a brand new war that starts another 60 day clock? I wouldn’t put it past them. The few remaining principled R’s in Congress will put up a stink about it, but they’ll get away with it.
I’m assuming all the judges in GA are GQP aligned? Because if not an emergency injunction should be granted, how the hell can you rerun primaries that have already started before the November elections?
Though given how things work now, the injunction will be denied, appealed to circuit which allows it, then the subprimes will cancel the injunction and punt until after the November election on the new map.
“Terminated” is an interesting way of spinning “devastating strategic loss for the USA”
And if course any new action will restart the 60 day clock from 0.
Our Republican governor (who is an idiot, but not the biggest idiot in the Republican Party) has stated that nothing’s going to change for the current election. But I expect we may see shifts in 2028–and if a Dem is elected Governor this year, I would expect that action to come before Kemp leaves office.
Aye, that’s the rub.
Archimedes is supposed to have said that if he had a long enough lever and a place to stand he would move the Earth. What he didn’t add was the more likely result: “If that shit gets out of control the Earth’s gonna use that lever to slap me into Andromeda.” Leverage is great when it works the way you want it to work, but responsible engineering builds in safeguards against leverage being reversed.
Gerrymandering is a mechanism for leveraging political power: one party uses its current political power to draw maps that increase or maintain (or both) that power. Now that they have the leverage and the political conditions are reversing they are trying to build some very unconstitutional safeguards, but they are working at cross-purposes on that.
This is not about law, but about verbiage.
You had it right the first time, Uncle Wally. Okay. You have it right both times.
