Doesn’t matter what they put in there. The Republicans will continue to deny the legitimacy of the proceedings and refuse to comply.

This is a complete stonewall that they’re hoping will ultimately be upheld by the Supreme Court, or whatever court they’ve spent the last 10 years packing.

If Rachel Mitchell isn’t allowed to slut-smear witnesses, then it’s a travesty of a mockery of a sham of a mockery of a travesty of two mockeries of a sham, and Matt Gaetz is just gonna hafta shut it down!

For Jesus.

Most parents understand that, when you’re dealing with a toddler, you treat him like a toddler. Trying to mold behavior by treating him like an adult is futile.

The consequences are clearly spelled out in language even Shithead can understand.

Uh, anyone else think it’s a big mistake to take an 11-day recess now? Seems like it really undercuts the severity of the proceedings.

The Democrats really are having to deal with a petulant child and his enablers.

This kind of thing - you don’t get your candy if you’re not a good boy - has not been necessary with previous administrations or impeachment inquiries, no matter how big the disagreements and how tough the fight … because adults were in charge of those administrations.

John Roberts has to be doing some serious thinking about the Constitution and the validity of his court right now.

My initial feeling is this is a very bad idea. You can see it right now. The White House will now have much more incentive to stonewall. If the Judiciary Chair denies any cross examination or calling of witnesses, then the White House and their allies scream rigged. And that’s all that’s remembered. Not that the White House did not release documents. Has Rep Nadler not learned anything these past 3 years. Facts and pressure do not work. I can now see why Pelosi has pretty much cut Nadler out of the process in favor of Schiff.

The problem with the article – OK, one problem with the article – is that you can’t use the term “due process” and then talk about choosing to deny people “due process.” That’s not what “due” means.

Good on the Democrats. As already mentioned, the Republicans will never agree to anything authored by the Dems but placing this kind of condition in the impeachment protocol is a good idea. The administration has been having it their way for a while now. With this kind of action, as well as court decisions and the shift in public opinion, the Republicans will have painted themselves into a corner their feet will never walk them out of.

Um…that train already left the station.

With the entire GOP on board.

I sure as hell hope he is almost at the stage where, possibly, he may be ready to draw some preliminary, albeit tentative, conclusions.

My money is on thinking that staffers will cause much fur to fly over the course of those eleven days, and the return will be a thing of beauty to behold!

Just like last time, they were on recess the committees work will continue, further witnesses are scheduled to have their depositions during the break.

I don’t know why this is called clever. It is what would happen in a regular trial. You can’t sandbag your opponent.

Whatever else one can say about it, we may hope that no one is paying enough attention to decide that it just doesn’t look good.

With all due respect: did you read Articles 1-3? The Pres can object to evidence and can request that certain witnesses be called. This sounds like run-in-the-mill evidentiary rules (and it is, sorta), but this sets up a Catch-22 for obstruction.

He can’t tweet about “why wasn"t so-and-so called”, etc. because he is invited to participate in the process. The response to every tweet to discredit the process will be: “The pres has not filed a written request to_____ but we look forward to receiving that”.

What’s wrong with getting GOP treason weasels out of town?

The committees will still meet and take testimony.

They just returned from recess 2 weeks ago. They’ll say it’s to spend time in their district, but really, most of them are going to spend the time dialing for dollars.
