Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Sens. Patty Murray (D-WA) and Gary Peters (D-MI) will reportedly demand President Trump issue a national emergency declaration over the coronavirus outbreak.
There should be no need to demand as a competent adminstration would have declared an emergency at the first sign of non-travel related/community infection.
Politico noted that an emergency declaration for the coronavirus would permit FEMA to allocate $40 billion in the Disaster Relief Fund to state and local governments in their efforts to combat the spread of the coronavirus.
Never happen: that’s $ 40 billion that won’t be spent on building the wall. Never happen.

Pelosi will demand, and must demand, that no money allocated will be moved. Limits on Trump’s powers to re-allocate - likely going beyond just anything that is “new” money will be a requirement.

The emergency declaration must be done, much as it will stick in Trump’s craw to do it because it’s a tacit admission that there really is a problem here.
One question: how will Fox spin this? Oh, the Dems backed Trump into a corner so he had to do it! But really, it’s just the flu.
I’m afraid that Trump will find some reason to delay–his anger at Inslee; his fear that the declaration will undercut his “everything’s fine” narrative.
As my mother and father used to tell me when I was a child, he needs to scratch his mad place and get glad–especially if he wants to salvage what’s left of his chances of getting reelected (which, just so we’re clear, I’m not at all hoping will come to pass).
As I noted elsewhere he will declare a national emergency as soon as the H-1A and H-2A visa holders who operate his businesses are too sick to work.
This needs to happen ASAP. Washington state is already in trouble. Here in MA we had cases more than double in one day. Nearly all are in very densely populated eastern MA. This is a disaster waiting to happen and it ain’t waiting much longer.
