Even though the hearings are going to be held in a Trump district?
The special master drew the PA map, so the one that NY gets will favor the Dems b/c pop shifts favor Dems there. As for a federal case, you put the case up and demand consistency. The OH GOP refused to comply with the OH Supreme Court and took it to fed court where the Trumper judges said they’d pick one of the GOP maps if nothing gets resolved. GOP Supreme Court overturned an appeals court decision to force a redraw of AL’s districts b/c of the Purcell principle. You put the case up there and demand consistency and fairness in the application of the law.
Rule one - it’s okay if it’s done by Republicans. Or put another way, the GOP is the party of law and order - law to impose order on its opponents.
I just got back online to see this post, and I agree with the first part of your comment.
I completely agree with the part up there, but remain skeptical. Still, it just might work.
Yes, that is what I hope happens.
But they don’t.
I live in NY and I want a fair map. Democrats overreach when they get too much power. Of republicans are worse and have no conscience.
#Bothsiderism strikes again!
I hate to one-up NY’s struggles to counterbalance with a thumb on the other scale but meanwhile here in Ohio, AKA the MAGAts Western Front, the courts are fine with whatever the State GOP wants because arglebargle Higher MAGAt court says illegitimate State Supreme Court & we only listen to SCOTUS precedence when it suits us and stuff.
Agreed.
Democratic-drawn maps get overruled and then rewritten by the courts. Republican-drawn maps go into effect through endless procedural delays and straight-up ignoring the courts (see Ohio). Its fair to push this to the SCOTUS to force them to either enforce better fairness between the states or display their bias even more.
Red State Courts have only Federalist Society Approved judges appointed. I wish what you said were true, but it’s in the same boat with Republicans and Trumps impeachment… One never did happen, the other never will happen.
Well, it wasn’t a decision made by Trump Judges.
Good morning, all. Busy day for me today, my presence may be limited, but before I go, I saw this today and had to share:
There is really no way to keep the contaminated human factor out of this situation. Even writing code to cover the situation of re-districting would be subject to the bias of the programmer(s).
We have no honest people in charge anymore and the courts are just as much of the problem as the legislatures.
That only seems to work for the GQP these days, but it’s a proper argument that should be applied across the board.
Just thought this was worth repeating.
THIS!
D courts enforce the law as written, R courts do what is in best interest of R’s.
Ah, the genius of unilateral disarmament triumphs again!
This is totally nuts. What difference does it make in a national legislature whether a given state’s delegation is representative? Outside of some weird procedures involving electoral college deadlock, none. There is no piecemeal solution to the gerrymandering problem. Dems need to get that and stop being so virtuously dumb.
And then there is Ohio where they are simply ignoring court orders and sending along the bird to help people contemplate the rule of law…
