The top Democrat on the congressional committee that oversees the Library of Congress, Rep. Joe Morelle (D-NY), is calling for an investigation into the White House’s recent actions involving the library and the U.S. Copyright Office. In a letter sent to the Library of Congress Inspector General, a group of Democrats led by Morelle asked…
Seriously? The Librarian of Congress? How the f$ck can that fat f$ck fire the Librarian of Congress?
And WTF is the problem with the Copyright office? This is just random destruction for the sake of it.
The Russel Vought shit-show continues.
“Progress is not measured by those with too much getting more but by those with too little getting enough”, FDR.
A couple of points about the Repug bill to take away healthcare coverage from 10,000,000 Americans so as to give tax breaks to those making more than $10,000,000 a year.
Point 1, the bill goes into effect after the next presidential election.
If the bill is passed, the requirements would take effect Jan. 1, 2029.
So just after the 2028 election cycle, 10,000,000 people will be kicked off Medicaid.
Point 2 it takes from those with too little to give to those with too much.
The proposal is part of an effort by House Republicans to find $880 billion in savings over the next decade to help pay for President Trump’s tax bill, which will extend his 2017 tax cuts.
So in order to extend tax cuts which are only significant to those making over $10,000,000 a year, the GOP is going to take away health care from 10,000,000 Americans.
Point 3 this is not about work requirements but about taking from those with too little to give to those with too much.
“[W]ork requirements are the worst sort of red tape — blocking health coverage for working people, people with serious health conditions and people with disabilities,” said Laura Harker, a senior policy analyst at the Center on Budget and Public Policies.
That is what Republicans are doing has nothing to do with work requirements but everything to do with taking from those who do not have enough to give to those who already have too much.
Here’s a clue:
“…the first woman and the first Black person to serve as the Librarian of Congress.”
In light of everything else that is happening, there is this, Trump is breaking all the rules in regard to refugee status so as to give White South Africans immediate access to the USA at taxpayer expense. My only comment is if I were a terrorist who wanted to get into America, under Trump all you have to be is White.
Refugee status for white South Africans: First group lands in US
Donald Trump says they are victims of “racial discrimination”, which is strongly denied by South Africa.
All useless, and time wasters for everyone involved. What other president in the last century made time for criticizing the Smithsonian institute, and meddled with the Kennedy center in between golf sessions? Damn the selfish, cowardly, useless, traitorous Republican party to hell.
(Oh, and especially McConnell)
Oh yes, we need more pasty-faced pudgy people in America.
May be DOGE showed to download the data from the Library of Congress but failed to gain entry?
I don’t know how much is digitized, but it be Elon’s style if he could get to it.
Why does Congress need a library? They don’t have a 747.
I think Jonathan Chait describes pretty well in The Atlantic today why this wanton destruction thing just keeps happening in Trump’s wake, in area after area.
From Chait’s piece: 'The genuinely complicated factor in these negotiations is that “winning” with Trump is often impossible, because the relationship itself is lose-lose. Trump does not appear to recognize the possibility of a positive-sum engagement, and his attempts to turn a productive connection into an exploitative one create losses for both sides. This is most obvious in trade, where Trump’s protectionist instincts have spread pain around the globe without generating any gains. His extortion of domestic firms and civil society has likewise undermined some of America’s most admired sources of innovation, for no offsetting benefit other than the expansion of Trump’s own power.’
His conclusion is that resisting, by any means you can find, whatever he tries to demand of you is the only reasonable response, because the other thing the record shows is that he does eventually cave to most of those who resist.
Chait again, in a not surprising conclusion: ’ Trump is a classic bully who craves submission and fears conflict. His fervent supporters want him to be Michael Corleone, but he’s more like Biff Tannen. Standing up to Trump does not mean that you win. But giving in guarantees that you lose.’
The Dems keep calling for an investigation, the GOP blows them off, Bernie and AOC hold rallies and the MEDIA says how vigorous Trump is and the Dems aren’t doing anything.
He also used the “G” word.
Just as sort of a side note to going in and ripping up the Library, I can see Vought and Elon and so on wanting to completely shut down the Congressional Research Service. It’s full of experts that they don’t control and like the other expert offices, a lot of Republicans have hacked away at it over the years, since many other Republican dislike experts as much as Trump and his gang do.
Since the Trumpies now claim to be able to do mass firings for no good reason, the CRS would certainly be a group they’d like to kick out en masse, I’d think. It seems to be their view that expertise has no place in Trump’s America, and definitely not in his Washington. Experts tend to say and write things that conflict with Trump policies. Go figure.
“The separation-of-powers concerns, remain thorny alarming and unclear. . .” Alarming yes. But thorny and unclear? No.
And there are a fair number who gave up before they were ever challenged. And that includes people who hands down had the resources to stand up and resist.
If someone goes to a library they might think.
Trump does not tolerate folks who can think.
Maybe he’s hoping to catch a pope fly? …
