Dems Are Calling For Santos To Not Be Seated In The Next Congress. Can That Happen?

Since the New York Times came out with their explosive report claiming Rep.-elect George Santos (R-NY) fabricated the majority of his background and credentials, some lawmakers have been calling for action to be taken to stop the congressman-elect from taking office in the new year.

First, and I donā€™t care to play that game, the GOP will never allow him to be expelled. Thatā€™s a given. And second, I wonder if those are even real prescription eyeglasses. And third, he wears his pants too tight for someone with fat legs. OK, thatā€™s all I got.

He should not be seated unless he provides proof of age and citizenship. Under the circumstances his word as a liar is no where near enough.

ā€œIf he is stripped of his powers, if he is ridiculed and hounded by the press, if itā€™s clear that heā€™s not going to be able to do anything in office, then he might not see the point in continuing,ā€

That is certainly wishful thinking. As Trump has proven repeatedly, for a con man the only thing that counts is how much money he can grift from the system. Political power is the means to that end. Representation and legislating count for nothing, except if they offer the possibility for more grift in the future.

Seriously, McCarthy will put him on the Ethics committee.

Didnā€™t fat-ass recently claim to be clairvoyant? Maybe he is. Was. Whatever.

ā€œI have people that have been studying [(his) birth certificate] and they cannot believe what theyā€™re finding ā€¦ I would like to have him show his birth certificate, and can I be honest with you, I hope he can. Because if he canā€™t, if he canā€™t, if he wasnā€™t born in this country, which is a real possibility ā€¦ then he has pulled one of the great cons in the history of politics.ā€

One of the tropes the Republicans have been using is trying to discourage us from tracking actual crimes by themselves attacking imaginary crimes.

As in:

Arenā€™t you embarrassed to be asking to see the birth certificate of this arrant liar when you objected so much to our demands to see Obamaā€™s birth certificate (which everybody sane knew he had)?

His congressional salary is likely the most amount of legitimate money Santos will make in his life. No way he is giving that up voluntarily.

Iā€™m sure Jorge will be very concerned by this; Rethugliklans even less so.

IANAL. Is there a legal way to get Santos to show a birth certificate proving he is eligible to serve in Congress? Should team blue and the Dā€™s go there?

Further, he probably imagines (like Trump) that itā€™s a firewall against indictment or investigation. If he gave up the ghost and left Congress, he likely lacks the resources to defend himself from criminal investigations. But remaining in Congress, he can try to call ā€œpolitical witch hunt!ā€ and work under the assumption that the executive branch will walk on eggshells around him.

Absolutely. Garland doesnā€™t want to do anything that would look ā€œpolitical.ā€

Probably needs to be one of his soon-to-be constituents to sue him on the grounds that he isnā€™t a citizen.

Also, Team Blue should absolutely go there. Obamaā€™s birther conspiracy doesnā€™t mean that Democrats should never question the citizenship (and, therefore, eligibility) of Republican politicians. They just need a credible and logical reason to do so.

Santos has a proven history of lying and has communicated that he is both an immigrant and first gen (i.e. natural born) citizen. As being a citizen is literally a constitutional condition of Congressional membership, itā€™s entirely reasonable to ask Santos to provide such evidence. Santos has brought this upon himself by grossly misrepresenting his background such that we canā€™t take anything he says as truthful without proof.

Edit: To be clear, I think all of his Congressional eligibility needs to be confirmed (i.e. that he is at least 25 years old, a citizen and resident of New York on election day). When you lie so frequently your word becomes meaningless. Unless he can provide documentation, witnesses or other evidence that he meets the above, we should not believe it.

And Obama did present the evidence in a timely manner since it was also a requirement for serving as President. Trump et al. of course just ignored it so they could continue being racists unimpeded by the facts.

This stripping a MOC from their committee assignment didnā€™t seem to work all that well on MTG. So why not go the other way, assign him to all the committees except for the Ethics Committee? Is there any other ā€œworkā€ that a MOC can be assigned?
Ah but this is a dream since weā€™re talking about a House with Qevin as Speaker.

Got to be at least a couple of areas to sue to stop him taking his seat

  1. proof of US citizenship for more than 7 years
  2. Living in Floriduh or NY.

Unfortunately being a lying toad is not one of them. He should not be seated and a special election held, but thatā€™s not going to happen with Qevin and the GQP in charge.

He found some eyeglasses frames from the 1970s. And whoā€™s that goombah to the right in the pic? When they say this is a representative form of government, I guess they really mean it.
