I commented about Signal a couple days ago but let’s hit it again.
What if Russia, China, or some other nefarious actor had already broken into Signal, why would they alert the Houthis? Only the Iranians are connected to them, and that’s primarily to f with the Saudis. There is much more to be gained if the Signal invaders keep quiet and gather whatever info they can. If they had tipped the Houthis and a jet was shot down there may have been a major investigation why.

In all seriousness, airline safety provides a fine counter to those who say everything should be privatized because the government can’t be counted on, people should be motivated by profit and then everything will be fine etc. A few years ago, I was listening to a talk show hosted by Alan Dershowitz (excuse me, I was driving through Central WI at the time, and that’s what there was) and some lumpenlibertarian called in and made just this argument. Not even Dersh would defend him.
