These folks don’t know yet that there is no arguing with the church, and it is the church in charge now.

Thanks for the link - when I read that article there was a link to another article I just had to quote here

Arizona Republican Rep. Eli Crane said he “misspoke” after he used the racially charged term “colored people” on the House floor and drew swift rebuke from Democratic lawmakers and the Congressional Black Caucus.

"In a heated floor debate on my amendment that would prohibit discrimination on the color of one’s skin in the Armed Forces, I misspoke. Every one of us is made in the image of God and created equal," Crane said in a statement.

It is nice to see someone other than Gosar making a name for himself from the AZ Republican representative asshole caucus. I am so glad Mr. Crane feels that everyone of us is made in the image of God and created equal. I find that totally reassuring.

Of course the spineless Republican fucks asked if there were enough Democratic votes to defeat their party’s bullshit - so they could vote to appease their base of dumbshit, mouth-breathing religious fanatic assholes because they don’t have the spine to stand up and do the right thing. Fuck every fucking Republican fuck. I hate the motherfuckers.

Agreed. “Shocked” makes them look clueless. Since Mikie is my rep I think I shall call and make that point.

After the last 40 years of GOP history, how could anyone be surprised?

Either we’ve got a something akin to Senate Brain going on here, where they actually believed the the football would be there when they went to kick it, or this is a continuation of centrist Dem PR policy of “there’s got to be good GOPers out there, please, please let there be good GOPers out there, not all of them can be MAGA Republicans, right?”

I’ve heard tell of focus groups who, when presented with actual GOP policies, didn’t believe that the GOP actually held those policies - they did not believe the GOP was as bad as described.

The GOP being very good at propaganda is half of why they had the reaction. The other half, though, is that Dems are very bad at it (I’m using “propaganda” in a neutral sense here). The Dems PR is often confused and ineffectual.

A better message here would have been, “Of course nearly the entire Republican caucus voted for these amendments: it is GOP ideology that women are second class citizens and that trans people should not be allowed to exist. So we shouldn’t be surprised when they vote for policy that implements their ideological preferences”, if not in those exact words.

Remember who’s paying these Republicans. They’re on the gravy train for themselves and their family and friends. They can’t stop because they’ve already sold their souls. There’s no salvation for them.

Either that (self-dealing, I would call what you describe), or they bow to the Party, or to the loudest enforcers of the Party, rather than do what they think is right.

As many of us have said, we should not be shocked at this vote. And we should remember not to be shocked when Republican voters (or those who lean Republican) vote for abortion restrictions because someone told them it is their duty, despite their personal feelings.

Their naivete is what’s shocking.

… maybe they could do it before votes are cast instead of after they’ve already lost?

I came here to ask the same question, just less politely. This horseshit is properly composted, it is so old. Shocked? The woman was shocked? A House ‘veteran?’ Anyone want to bet that they will be “SHOCKED” again by the patently obvious within a week?

Please do. Thank you!

I just made the call. The aide understood exactly what I meant so let’s see if Mikie switches to something like, “saddened but not surprised” or something equally damning to those right wing freaks.

Just called my “moderate” congressman in a swing district, NE02, and he voted to deny health care for women in the military.

The FDA has announced its approval of an OTC contraceptive Opill and I’m pretty sure there’ll be lots of demonstrations led by conservative troglodytes in front of pharmacies, CVS, Walgreens, et al and we won’t be shocked.

Reps. Mikie Sherrill (D-NJ) and Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA), the only two female Democratic veterans in the House, expressed shock Friday that the vast majority of House Republican “moderates” voted for a bundle of far-right amendments on the defense bill the evening before.

They thought Republicans wouldn’t risk our national security over their latest culture war BS. They were obviously wrong.

The good news is if they are making their shock public, they’ve given up on the idea that any of these ‘moderates’ can be converted. They won’t be making this mistake again.

To be fair to these women, if they were given more time to prepare answers to this outrageous turn of events, they might have come up with something more suitable that shocked. Democrats have a perfectly fine set of words but adlibbing is hard to do.

“Thus the need for white patriots like me to classify & demean these folks whenever possible. God was wrong”

Republicans want to overturn Griswold. I think this will accelerate their efforts. It will be religion based and the claim will be that their children are exposed to contraceptives.
