Apparently the previous senator from New Mexico Pete Domenici in his later years would wander the halls in his pajamas. Somehow he was still able to show up to vote. Hopefully senator Lujan will be back in good stead.
I send Senator Lujan my best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Manchin not so much. I doubt you wanna read what I think of his behavior. However I will say that he does have more Senate style decorum (decorum being different for politicians than it is for the rest of humanity) than that partner of his from my state…
In the old days (not sure exactly what I mean by that), the Republicans would have ‘paired off’ one of their members with the afflicted member across the aisle so that the vote count would not be affected. I don’t know if we can expect that today, given McTurtle’s scorched-earth policy on everything.
We have great young people among Democrats. They can’t be “our future leaders when they’re 75”. They’re the leaders now, and they’re fully capable — better — than most current members of Congress, and the upper reaches of the government industry.
The challenge for our young Democrats is the media. It eats them alive. As good as AOC is, she can’t outdo the flood. None of them can. First, they’re honest. Second, they’re busy doin’ stuff.
The stroke seems to have happened last Thursday. Here’s to a speedy recovery. McCain had a brain surgery for a tumor and was able to return to the Senate. I expect Lujan will return as soon as he is able.
