Rep. Marie Newman (D-IL) responded on Thursday to a move by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) to paste an anti-trans poster outside of her office door by suggesting the congresswoman responsible for posting the “goofy” and hateful sign was out of touch with reality.
Normally I’d be in the “ignore MTG” camp, but when the topic shows that MTG is out of touch, is spiteful, but there are other Republicans that don’t share her views then this is good.
Unity and comity can’t grow if you allow others to demean and trash others.
Never had a FB account. Never will. Don’t give a shit about stupid peoples’ opinions, cats, dogs, children, restaurant experiences, etc. If it were up to people like me, Zuckerberg would be flipping burgers.
Are we sure MTG is not trans herself? I mean, she’s probably just congenitally fugly, but I don’t think we should take any chances on which bathroom she’s allowed to use.
When Marge said that being stripped of her committee assignments freed her, this is what she meant: freedom to engage in performative hate and trolling, the only thing Republicans actually do.
Kinziger is certainly going all in. Good for him. Though I do wonder if he will run again - his total lack of fucks to give certainly makes me think he’s not.
Greene, stationed across the hall from her, posted an anti-trans sign outside of her door that reads, “There are TWO genders: Male & Female. Trust The Science!”
This may be the first and only time since Reagan that a Republican has advocated “science”.
(Of course, she’s mistaken it for “belief in witches, shape-shifting reptoids, and fairies”, but still…)
You know, even if you have strong traditionalist feelings about the locker rooms and so forth on a subject like this, for God’s sake it’s usually considered the decent thing to leave people’s kids out of it. A decent person would somehow demonstrate some understanding to a trans person’s mother. Of course that’s not what we’re dealing with here.
OT but speaking of loose touch with reality today the fun times start with Crazy People Acting Crazy (CPAC). I expect a full dose and then some of OMG WTF LOL.
MTG was elected by her district to provoke, disrupt, spread conspiracy theories, and sneer. She was not elected to legislate.
Congresswoman Newman’s public assessment of MTG fails to take that into account.
Score 1–0, MTG.
Dems can develop strategy and tactics to regain control of messaging. MTG won’t stop, but she can be portrayed as a ‘one-note representative’ and not responding to the other needs of her district, whatever they happen to be.
“Democrats are going to deliver and we’re going to deliver strongly and we’re going to keep going, so if she wants to spend time on signs and running around being nasty, rock on,” she added.
Perfectly stated! Dems are doing the damn thing working for the American people while this Cromagnon looking fool is running around making signs. This is exactly the kind of messaging Dems need to drive home over and over again.
